Today my aunt brought some food from the food bank for me, I ate a lot from food banks as I am on a fixed income.
I prepared a nice spaghetti with the meat sauce she had made herself, and the spaghetti noodles she provided.
The cheese I had already but that also came from a food bank.
She brought a wonderful loaf of bread I buttered two pieces to have with my spaghetti, I was looking forward to it,
The bread felt fresh looked good, I bit into it and yuck the taste of mold,
this is not the first time this has happened from a food banks bread,
it is actually about the 5th time and my son will never touch the bread,
I am going to tell people that bring me food from the food bank, no more bread,
have you ever tasted moldy bread? what was the circumstances around tasting it?

It has been a while since I tasted moldly bread. Every time I did taste it though, it was bread that either I or someone else had bought and left too long without eating it. When I lived in my own apartment, I would have to go to food pantries sometimes. But I always inspected the bread very carefully. If I even thought I saw a green spot on it, the whole loaf went in the trash.

there was no outer signs on this bread, it was still soft, no mold, and no smell, until you bite into it, yuck.

I remember buying day old bread and finding mold on it. I toasted it and didn't realize it had mold until I took a bite of it. Sometimes removing the moldy parts helps before toasting it. Remove the molded part and use the good part.

Yes I have and it made me nauseated and finally I heaved the whole thing up. I guess we are just not supposed to eat bread once it gets to that stage.Ithink a lotof people do not refrigerate their bread and that will lead to quick mold in places like southern cal whereits warm a lot of the time. I do not even eat cheese that has a slight bit of mold on it as I know its justnot good for us. I just cut the moldy part off until its all just fresh cheese and toss the moldy bread out.I always refrigerate my bread.

I usually refrigerate my bread too, but this had just come from the food bank and I ate or wanted to eat the the same night.
What an awful taste.

in these situations it pays off that i am so fussy there was always a reason i don't like things open in the fridge or to be refrozen and i would never eat bread from a food bank or meat from one either i just don't trust em i don't even trust the stores for bread XD

Yuk, how horrible. I can still taste it myself. This past winter we had a lot of snow and ice and sometimes when I ran out of bread I bought it at a convenience store right next door instead of taking a 5-10 minutes walk to the No Frills grocery store. Well I went there one day and got a bag of bread rolls. They were o.k. the first day. The next day I prepared a sandwich for lunch and bit into it. The taste of mold is unmistakable. Needless to say I threw the rest out. I have not bought any bread in that store since.

My MIL keeps all her bread in a wood bread box. I personally always thought it sat a little to close to the stove...no exhaust fan so things get really steamy on that side of the kitchen. Anyway, it seems like bread doesn't stay fresh tasting very long around here. It can feel soft still but it gets that taste and I refuse to eat it. Plus it doesn't get cleaned out as often as it should (and I won't do it because I don't want to get in trouble for throwing away t heir moldy bread) and so I think sometimes it's just the smell of the older bread seeping into the new bread.
You should definitely tell the people who bring your food and also the food bank themselves. I bet they have a moisture problem wherever the keep their bread and it's probably affecting a lot of people.

I have tasted it before, and it is most unpleasant. I worry sometimes that there may be mold growing that I just do not see yet. the food bank should keep the bread frozen until ready to distribute, to help delay such things from happening. bread mold can be dangerous to the health - I hope you spat out the bite you took.

I have eaten mouldy bread before, but only quite by accident. I had made myself some sandwiches for work one day and had not noticed that the bread was on the turn, by the time dinnertime came at work, I sat to eat my sandwiches but because they had been in the warm it had brought the mould out more, I took a bite before I realised it was off, it is a vile taste!

I have eaten moldy bread before without realising it was moldy and when i tasted it, it was obvious it was really disgusting.
I am unaware of what a food bank is so cannot comment on that situation. It is rare i find moldy bread tho at the local supermarkets here which is a bonus.

Sorry that happened to you. Moldy bread is the worst thing I've ever tasted. When I was younger someone brought my family a loaf of bread, and the day after it already started to go bad. But I didn't notice because the mold wasn't obvious yet, so I took a big bite out of it and it was horrible. I still remember the taste of mold, and I'm really careful about bread ever since then.

I used to eat bread that was donated to our church from a local healthy foods store owner. If I could see the mold, I wouldn't take it, but sometimes it had mold I couldn't see or it would get moldy as soon as I got it home. I know I've eaten moldy bread as a child, but I've been good at not actually eating it as an adult. Mostly, if I can, I just take the moldy part off and eat it unless it's a lot of really gross mold.

I've had this happen as well when I've gotten bread from the one pantry near us. They get bread donations all week and they put it all in this metal shed to give out on Saturdays. Sitting in there especially here in Florida with the heat and humidity just makes it turn really fast. The problem also has been if it hasn't been moldy it has these small flies in it. We finally just said no more bread. It wasn't worth the risk. Moldy bread, even if you don't see the mold but it's there, can make you sick and I just don't want to take that kind of chances.

I don't know what mold tastes like, but I bet it was really nasty. Normally I check the bread over before I eat it. Sometimes if it looks good but different, I will have my husband look at it, with him being a cook, he knows if it's bad even if it doesn't appear to look bad. I'm never good at telling if foods have went bad or getting ready to unless it already has mold on that I can actually see.

I remember one time, I made my ex some toast and I don't know if the kitchen was just dark at the time or if I just was completely distracted, but the bread was completely green. I gave it to him and you should have seen how fast he spit it out. He swore I did it on purpose, but I honestly didn't. I have to admit, I don't know how I didn't see it. He has never let me live it down to this day.
