Do you buzz when you can't wait for your chatmate?

Is it rude to buzz when your chat mate is not replying, then suddenly you click the buzz to alert him/her? I have done that to one of my long time chat mate and I was quiet disappointed because at first he is making a joke, then suddenly become irritated after I buzz him. Is that wrong?
I am just fund of sending a buzz just to alert if a person is still interested talking to you. Is in it that it is also no good if a person just left the conversation without saying anything, that is why we buzz?

No I don't do that because I don't like when someone is "buzzing" me as well haha. It just irritates me. If my chatmate doesn't reply then I just close the window, that's it. Guess don't like chatting at all

for me its annoying..i have a friend who even if i havent replied he will buz me after say hey..i tell him if im on the comp i will talk to him and buzzing doesnt help because usualy i have my sound turned off..but in the end it doesnt do anything and he keeps buzzing me..

Its really rude to buzz if a person is not respondig...but we cant help it..if he is not responding we dont have any other option to call him back to chatting....

If a ample amount of time has been left between the time you responded to them and the time you've been waiting for their response then yes I would definitely consider buzzing. However, if they have said will "brb" or you can tell that they are typing I would definitely not waste my buzz because that could just piss the person off.
I would first type "are you there?" before I buzzed and if they respond then there's no use in buzzing, if not then i'd wait a little longer and then buzz.

If you buzz as soon a s replying or in 5 minutes it annoys people... But there has been no reply for a long time say 15 minutes then it is appropriate to buzz them ...But I generally avoid buzzing..
