I recently went downtown to order a new pc, i knew what i wanted more or less. At the shop a few changes were made i got better ram than i planned to get which was good. They didnt have the case i wanted but as a result i got a better PSU w/ the case i got, either way most of what i got cept for mobo/cpu i bought knowing i'd change them very soon. 2 other changes that were made was cpu they told me to get a dual core instead of the quad i was asking for it sounded good and was alot cheaper so i said ok, and with those savings i went for a better GPU. well the next day they called me and told me that the cpu they told me to get, they could not infanct get for me, and that i should get the quad i wanted in the first place, I agreed. then i did some research on the GPU they told me to get, as i did research all the parts from day 1. I found out that some people had problems with it overheating and frying it b4 they even had the OS installed. So i called them and told them i would rather go back to the cheap 8500gt i originally asked for, they said ok. now from the day i ordered it they said it would take 1 week for them to have it ready, i told them no problem i only need it in 11 days. so the days pass and i call them 2 days before i am to go pick it up, only to hear that it is not ready. we straightened that out on the phone, and it was in fact ready by the day i needed it. So i went and got my new pc and i was very happy to do so. I got it home put the box down and went to go buy a surge protector and some other stuff. I came back and set up the computer and let it sit there for another hour or so, i wanted to make sure it was settled after being outside and all. So i finally turn it on, only to find it ridiculously slow, now i mean this is a 2.4gh quad, i was used to a 1.6gh single core pc, and i swear my old pc would boot and shutdown faster and would start progs quicker albeit once in the progs the quad would win. even if that was the only prob i wouldn't have accepted it ... NO WAY my old pc single core w/ less than half the ram and a weak mobo and gpu should not beat the new one at anything cept gathering dust. Well shortly after maybe 2 hrs in i got my first bsod in ages, and the pc was at stock speeds. i didnt think much of it cept i was not happy but i pressed onwards. i had gotten a couple of freezes and a couple more bsod's before it ultimately looped from boot to bsod , so i knew i had to reinstall windows. So i formatted the hdd, and started installing windows from the disk i had bought with the new pc, and not 30 secs in i get an error cannot copy file ... so i tried again i got the same error but then an error that my hdd was corupt and setup could not continue. So i called the shop and they said, bring it in, so i did. i told them all the errors i saw from slow boot/shutdown times to the freezes and bsods and the problems with the windows disk. They called me back told me my pc was fine they installed windows from my disk and on my hdd, they also told that since they worked on it for 2 days and nothing was wrong with it, they would have to charge me 35$. now its a brand new pc its under warranty 1 year parts and labor, i told them noway i was not paying 1 cent, and i didn't. now bare in mind 1 thing i did notice the first time i got the pc was 2 sets of video drivers 1 from nvidea and 1 from asus. so i had looked up the asus drivers and found it caused bsods, and i had told the shop this when i brought the pc back in and told them not to install it. so right before they told me it was fine i owe 35$ i had asked if they put that asus driver back in or not and they did in fact install it again, but on the phone he said he took it out. well i was not impressed at all but i went and got my pc and paid nothing cept taxi money. took it home set it up, still booted and shutdown slow, couple of freezes, and 8 hours later poof ... bsod to boot screen to bsod loop. so again i reformat and go to install windows and ... cannot copy file this time i skipped the file.. files ... more files ... 30-40 could not be copied, i let setup continue and finish and windows was installed but hmmm was awfully slow well not really just about the same as they kept sending it to me. i kept playing around troubleshooting as im not the one to take machines in to pay for things i can do myself and have been doing so for 18 years, i noticed my windows pro cd worked and installed fine on the new pc and the windows home cd they gave me worked on my old pc both without any real problems .. weird. so i tried pro on the new pc and it was super fast i mean quick boots and shutdowns like i was used to on the old machine but even faster, like i would have expected. So i tried to reinstal windows home from their cd on the new pc and what do you know it worked, but i started noticing that it would randomly hang on the boot screen. So i called i told them everything as i had written it all down to be able to tell them the problems cause they were acting like i knew nothing and it was all my fault somehow, and we settled on me coming in to change my optical drive and hdd. So i did that started reinstalling windows home .. no problems ... i start installing chipsets and other required drivers. Now they require reboots .. well system hung at boot screen on the first reboot but other than that no problems no bsods no freezes so i started rebooting over and over from start menu, and i forget the actual number but it was something like 1-2 hangs in about 10 boot ups and 2 hangs in 5 shutdown then turn back on. So i called and they told me bring it in for diagnostics and to change the mobo and PSU so i did and also had them install a collermaster HSF cause i noticed it was a lil hot in the box, though nothing drastic i do eventually want a modest overclock. so i go back get my pc and buy a 120mm fan, take home my pc install the fan in the front for better airflow, i turn on my pc and BOOM hang on start up, right from the get go. now this is basically where i am at presently, this pc is awesome in my opinion i am very happy with it (since i fixed it and it runs w/o bsods or freezes when i am using it) but i dont want to always have to worry about it hanging on start up so they want me to bring in the pc one more time to replace the ram the cpu and the gpu aswell as the hdd again. i will do that, and at that point every piece in this machine will have been changed once and the hdd will have been changed twice. very stressful to say the least ill have to take it back in soon i told them i would have to wait till next week or maybe even next month as i have wasted 100$ in cabs back and forth, plus i wanted to have some time with my machine i mean dang half the time it was either in the shop or i was fixing it or having problems with it. now atleast i can seemingly do w/e i want with it i play my final fantasy 11 i tried crysis and a few other games, i watch movies listen to music, i writing from this pc at the moment, and i can do that all at once if i want.. just those damn hangs on boot up. Anyone else have an issues with a new pc? and how would u have handled my situation if it happened to you? i mean at one point i wanted to cry my old pc is 6 years old and never seen a shop from the time it left 1 when i bought it, its now a frakenstien box and has its moods and issues and even had my cat jump inside it and yet ive managed to save it every time and it still works, and when i ordered the new pc i really was under the impression the old pc was not ever going to work again/ anyways let know what u guys think about that and tell me any stories u might have about your own experiences with new pc's.

I had problems with my pc when I bought it, the hdd was completely useless and I couldn't do anything, so I had to bring it back to the store and get them to install a new hdd, which apparently did not work very well with my motherboard, so they had to install a brand new motherboard, it ended up costing me more money in taxi fare than it did to buy the computer

Wow that's a lot spent in taxis, I hate wasting money for things like that and think that these shops should do better testing before they make and sell a pc.

I think many times the computer people already know what's the problem & seeing those customers who have less understanding of these electronic stuff, they try to manipulate them although sometimes it can be a genuine problem. But back here where I come from, computer shops generally operate this way. It's kinda hard to find an honest one that's why I decided to start an IT business myself.

The present configuration is Just Pentium III 866 Mhz.I had my share of heartbreaks too with the computer. Somehow I managed till now well.I am also doing myLot with you. Good luck with yours.

I've never bought a PC that I couldn't fix myself, however I've often bought PCs with small error with drivers and so on. I usually start by fomatting the computer right after getting it. That helps.

I'm pretty much the same my last 2 pc's i bought 1 from a shop brand new about 6 or more years ago has never seen the shop again, the other i bought at a pawn broker it's a gimp pc for emails i keep both running fine. it's just that this 1 came w/ errors ok i formatted .. but thats when i'd get errors from cannot copy file .. to .. hdd corrupted setup cannot continue, when i took it to them they said they installed it fine w/ my disk, but when i ogt it back and formatted i could not install again .. but then all of a sudden i was able to .. weird , now its all about a random hang at the windows boot screen, which really isnt that big of a problem. assuming everything else is working 100%

this story is something to make you want to cry, it is just too much stress, one would not think that a new computer would have any problems let alone all the problems you have. and that fact that you have to go out of your way to drag that thing back and forth to the shop is another aggravation. It is good that the people at the shop are working with you but enough already, it is time to have a working computer. you know the old expression if it weren't for bad luck you would have no luck at all? that is how I feel this situation comes down to.

Wow. you sure had alot of problems with it being a new pc and all. That sounds like something that I would have had to go through. I had a Dell for years and I had alot of problems with it. I would always have to call the manufactures and have them help me to reformat the hard drive or disc. I got so tired of that and when the warranty ran out, I had to start paying them over the phone to help me get it going again. I got tired of that so I went and bought me a new, cheaper computer from Walmart. It was an Emachine. I brought it home and hooked it up as fast as I could so I could get back to earning my money online. The dang thing wouldn't even work. I called the manufacturer and they had me toaking the dang thing apart. I was on the phone with them for over an hour and then I finally said forget it. I told them I just stopped working on my old one and I do not have the time to be working on a new computer that I just brought home and hooked up. I took the dang thing back to Walmart and got a different one and it works fine now, knock on wood! I hate to buy something brand new and have to fix it or work on it as soon as I get it home.

Dang, can't they give you a full refund or something? Just get it from another shop? Though it's quite not possible....hmm...as I'm a system builder myself. I hv me own IT company. It seems there's so much of troubleshooting....so many possibilities of things wrong. 1 question, I see that you hv top notch specs - is your power supply even enough to support? That's 1 question to consider. Some GPUs need more juice 4 power. If your interior is too hot, your CPU won't b working well too & that can cause the freezes. If ur Windows CD / DVD is not working well you might miss some files during installation. Well, I guess the worse is that your motherboard has intermittent problems. I hv a feeling it could be on the power supply part. Let me know what's d outcome. Very much interested to help.

well my sale was final, so far they are trying to please me since I proved to them there was a problem. they did change the mobo so unless i had gotten 2 in a row that were faulty. yea my PSU would be enough to run the same system w/ an 8800gts it has enough watts and amps since i have a 8500gt that shouldn't be the problem they did change the PSU to make sure it was not faulty. my interior was a little warm that's why i bought the coolermaster HSF and the extra 120mm fan, but i ouldn't say it was ever hot and now its very cool and my fans are on the lowest settings. Personally i think it's the copy of windows they gave me, which was an oem package so shoulda worked but for some reason it doesn't. I've been running this pc now since i got it back and for the most part now it's working 100% but i know that 1 lil problem exists though i haven't seen it since the first 2 days i had it back. anyways i hope it will stay working especially after I take it back 1 more time to replace the remaining parts that have not been, but if it's the windows cd I'd have taken the pc in all those times for nothing :( ah well we will see, anyways thanks for the comment :)

Glad 2 hear it's up & running fine, hope the worse would be over. I agree with you on the CD / DVD part. Most times it's just reusing the same piece of CD / DVD & there might be scratches due to some other old ODDs that might have caused that. Missing a few files will cause loads of problems. Like my sis, her PC sometimes out of nowhere just reboots. She did acknoledge when she installed windows there might have been some missing files. Anyway all the best!~
