why call people nerds or geeks?

I really do not know why To many People judge by looks they do not go for the inside of a Person at all, it is the looks they go for and it makes me mad as the best looking Guy/Woman could be the biggest bully/B*tch in the World but because they have the looks they are the in thing

They fit a certain criteria and thus were labeled..Those that chose to label people didn't see beyond the glasses, or the brain type kids, or like that..It is sad that people have to label others..

Well I'm a girl and I was kind of a geek in high school. But I wasn't the type of geek that they stereotype in tv. I was actually pretty cool with a lot of people. I knew a bunch of people, I was in my dance class, chorus, and performed in our first ever theatre program. People would call me a geek just because I had good grades. I didn't mind because I don't care what they call me and they did it with a good heart. But when it's done for evil then that's awful. I've seen some geeks that are pretty hot so I don't know. Sometimes i think it's because people are jealous that they are so smart and decided to give them a name to punish them for being so smart or something.

Because humans are tribal. We need things to differentiate 'them' from 'us.' It's really that simple, as far as I'm concerned. BTW, geek is not an insult. I'm a geek, I'm a huge geek. Call me a nerd and I'll punch you in the nose :P A geek, in these parts, is someone who has a high level of interest in a particular subject. You can be a computer geek, a movie geek or even a football geek. Although the words origins and its path to the current definition are... tortuous to say the least!
