I was watching a program today about India and the were demonstrating a classic Indian dance from the city of Orissa, it is one of the hardest dances to master because your body must work in opposite directions at the same time. The dance is called, Odissi dance and has been depicted in many ancient indian artifacts. The reason that the dancer must be graceful but at the same time contort the body in some strange postures is because the dance is imitating the ancient sculptures and statues of the great gods and godesses like shiva here is a link to the dance if you are interested, http://www.indialine.com/travel/orissa/dances.html Do you enjoy watching classical dance? Can you dance? If so what types of professional or classical dance can you do?

Ifugao dance - One of the traditional dances in my place
I enjoy classic dances. Like our cultural dance, it somehow depicts history and the practices of ones culture or nation. Like agricultural, courtship and war dances, it shows how they value the culture and practices they have grown to know and love. Like the Indian classical dances, it strengthens nationalism and fosters patriotism. Not only such, it makes the bond stronger between those who have the same origin and culture. Here's a sample dance of my culture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eaaDtaCKdI

I like to watch some of these shows and dances sometimes. We have a channel called KET and they have all kinds of shows on there and they show some different cultures and their ways of life on it sometimes. It all depends if it is something that catches my attention, as to whether or not I will watch them. I can dance a little bit but I am not very good at it. I do not know any steps to a dance. I know just a few steps or lives from a couple of dances, but that is because my family used to go to dance classes.
