Changes in Girl Scouting?

I think I read or heard that they took advice, ideas and such from girls in certain areas. I know that different places have different views on what would be fun.. I am sure that my back woods, country girls would be bored with things that a New York City girls would love and vice-versa. THAT is one reason I really like the program as it has been for YEARS. We can change it a bit to fit our needs. Like Areospace (what we are working on) The nearest Airport is 3 hours away without any traffic problems. 5 or 6 possible on a bad traffic day. We can't travel that far to see an airport! We do have a small Swift airport here that has a museum. SO... We are touring there and seeing the museum and talking to the owner to fulfill the requirement, instead of watching planes take off at an airport. We should get more out of it really, A fellow mylotter posted a game. like gossip, but instead of sitting in a circle and whispering (loudly for some girls)to your neighbor. The first person reads an article and tells the second girl what it ws about, The second girl tells #3 what she remembers being told and so on. They leave to room so there is no chance of the others hearing what another said. We are going to do this as a part of our Healthy relationship badge. It will show them how gossip gets changed as it passed. We are having a lot of trouble with 3 girls that can't seem to get along at home or school. They do okay in the meetings because" They know they have to!" Their words, not mine!) SO I am going to use things like this to show them that they MUST get along always becuse it is harmful to them both when they don't. Is the new program going to allow these kinds of changes to it? I know the Studio 2B was really good about letting the girls come up with more to do to earn the charm, but what about the new program? i do like the 2B idea, but I think it gives the girls a good chance to 'cheat' herself into a charm and not really get anything out of it. I guess like every other change, it won't come easy, and there will be plenty of problems and even more questions.

I am the same way. I get really creative when it comes to doing badge work. I feel as long as the girls are learning and are interested in the topic we should be able to change things a bit to make it possible to get the badges they want. I also really like the game idea. I would like, one of these days, to plan a neighborhood activity for older girls. We have alot of community events for daisys, brownies and Jrs but, not much for older girls. I think the activity you mentioned would be great for that. I hope you don't mind if I steal it. hehe

yeah, sometimes I wonder if who ever decideds on these changes really pay attention to what girls would want. Everyone always talks about how girls should be making the decisions in the troop and meetings should be led by the girls more and more as they get older but, do they really ask for the girl's imput before they make all these changes? I know no one asked us what we wanted...

Rosetta is so right! We has just gotten use to the Studio 2B and were confident enough to start doing this with the girls when BOOM, another change in effect. We have no idea what the new program will be like yet, we were just told it was coming. It will be like the Studio 2B, it will be confusing and there will not be adequate training, everyone will have different interpretations of how to do the program. I'd love to stick to what we have been doing! Sure we add and discontinue the types of badges,try-its, an IP's, but the basic program should stay the same.
