Calling all Techies, I need help!!!!!!!

Ok, so last fall I got this new laptop when I started college. I knew it had a web cam/camera in it, but had never used one before, nor did I know the first thing about them. I kept seeing this little camera icon pop up in the bar on the bottom of the screen, every time I turned on my puter. It said, camera assistant software. Well, since I don't have a digital camera I thought this was irrelevant to me, and I tried to get it to go away. But I couldn't, it kept coming back. So today, out of curiosity, I opened that bad little icon up. It was the webcam. DUH!!!! Anyway, I played around with it, and figured out how to take still pictures and how to get them into the folder I want them instead of some random location where I'll never find them. I then played with the webcam recording features, and I figured out how to record myself. Here's where I need help. I tried to record a short greeting to send to my mom, and wanted to allow my kids to do that too. But the files are enormous. My email only allows 10MB, and a 5 second recording takes up almost 8MB. And that is after I chose the option to compress the files, before I did that the shorty film took up almost 17MB. Is there any way I can compress these more, or save them to a different program, or maybe there's some online sharing site I don't know about. I don't know, all this techno stuff is still pretty new to me. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!

well Gmail gives you 1 gig of space for email or if you want you can use rapidshare or megaupload those 2 last ones are file sharing companies that allow huge files to be uploaded..

Gmail is free right? I've had a couple people tell me I should get that. I already have four emails, I didn't think I would have the need for another. But wouldn't the receiver have to have that much space allotment as well? Those sharing sites, I never heard of them, can you tell me anything about them? Do they have a good reputation? Would other people have access to my stuff? Are they free or at least really inexpensive? Thanks a bunch for your quick response!

You can use msn instant message aol instant message or yahoo im. Just download one of them and tell your family to do the same. Then you can send any file you want too over that. I myself use msn it works best for me.

WOW, you're fast! So you can send recordings through the instant messangers? I didn't know that. Too cool. I guess I'll have to consider finally jumping back into that. It's been a while since I've used IM

Another 1 you can try out is www.yousendit.com You can sign up for free then load your files to their server. Then send the link / URL to whomever you want to dowload your file. You can sned up to 1GB. Although you have a 6GB+ storage for gmail, if not mistaken you can only send a 20MB max of attachment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

filecows is also another good online file sharing site. The difference between it and other sites like rapidshare is that u can download files wothout having to wait for 30seconds.
