Bashing someone on blogs

Say someone had a blog. and was like bashing an ex or someone, pretty much throwing their dirty laundry out there for any one to read, can someone get in trouble for that?

I would think that if it was slander than defamation of character, would still be lawful. Just because your behind a computer screen you still can not throw around slander. Now if it is truth, I don't know where that person on the receiving end might be legally. It is an interesting question.
