It was just a few months ago that the biggest complaint people had about Obama was he made great speaches, but didn't say anything.
This served him well.
He should fire the campaign staffer who convinced him to include more substance in his speaches though.
This isn't serving him well at all.
Let's take the recent interchange between Obama and Charlie Gibson. Gibson brought up the fact that tax cuts have reaped more revenue in the federal coffers, while tax increases have had the opposite effect.
"GIBSON: You said on CNBC, and I quote, "I certainly would not go above what existed under Bill Clinton, which was 28%." It's now 15%. That's almost a doubling, if you went to 28%. But actually Bill Clinton in 1997 signed legislation that dropped the capital gains tax to 20%. And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased. The government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28%, the revenues went down. So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that a hundred million people in this country own stock and would be affected?"
Ok, fair question for a Presiential Candidate, and Obama returned a fair answer. He also proved that in his little world, taxation isn't about paying the federal bills.. it's about social engineering.
"OBAMA: I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness. We saw an article today which showed that the top, uh, 50 hedge fund managers made $29 billion last year, $29 billion for 50 individuals. And part of what has happened, uh, is that those who are able to work the stock market and amass huge fortunes on capital gains are paying a lower tax rate than their secretaries. That's not fair."
What? Even though raising capital gains would result in less revenue for the federal budget, he would raise the capital gains tax?
Yup, Obama is about "hope" and "change" all right. He "hopes" no one notices that his "changes" are nothing more than "from each according to his means, to each according to his needs".
Barack "Marx" Obama... well, he's demands apologies when his real middle name is used, maybe he'll be proud of this one.;~D

When B.O. came onto the scene he was a fresh face that the damocrates needed. He wasn't held to their beliefs because he seemed too green to be black hearted like the ilk that currently dominate the house of reps. The first round of dumocratic nominees for POTUS were part of the sixties throwbacks, those people were around when Nixon was in office. They hated their government then and now they want to control it? Hitler clinton was the best one to run against Mr. Speech because she's been where they all want to be, the decision to have her run was probably decided during a game of spin the bottle. B.O. has had a pass from the media, of course they control it and even they haven't been able to stop the slow bleed that BHO keep cutting himself on. He has no idea how to run the economy, he thinks people who make money are evil and must be punished. I guess he better not accept any more money from rich people and should get a paper route to pay for his agenda. He is in cadence with the dingocrats because he has no plan. He will have those dolts telling him what to do so no matter which one of those goofs gets the nomi it won't matter. Hil should just unhinge her jaw and finish him off. Mr. O doesn't have a clue what it takes to run a country and Mrs. Rodham isn't qualfied to flush the toliet. If they ask Mr. "I need a teleprompter to answer this" another hard question and he fails the answer I think I'm going to laugh. He wants change, sure, who doesn't, he wants hope, sure, who doesn't, but I fear his change is based hoping that goverment will be the answer. The dems who met those immigrants at the shores so many years ago have lost touch with the people who built this country on industry. Don't punish the business man, why do you think we've gone global? I'm not happy with the GOP's either but this was for the benefit of ebony and ivory.

Obama likes to throw numbers around when he talks, trying to sound like he really has a plan and will do the economy good, but he is actually sounding pretty ignorant when you start listening to his message. I can't get over the feeling that the ones who are diehard Obama supporters are blinded to his failures because they thing getting a black man into the white house will represent progress for their race.

Yes making things more fair = Marxism, sounds very logical if you are a stern conservative.
I'm not sure if the far right realizes it (you'd think they would as they are the only ones responding to their own discussions) but mainstream America is not crazy about the current situation. Even your own party has realized a change is needed and nominated the most liberal possible from your party to be President. If the Republican Party refuses to stray from their outdated views, they will risk losing many elections to come as more latinos register to vote every day, not to mention the other segments of population the Republican Party continues to alienate.

Gewcew:
Look at illegal immigration. I totally am closer to the Republican point of view. I believe these immigrants have devastated our local economies, however the current Republican view is to deport 18 million people? Its impossible for one. For two they'll be back in a week as that border fence is virtually useless. For three, the latino voting block is gaining power. The Republicans would be wise note to alienate the entire block. More and more are voting every year and its scary if you think about it, if they truly mobilized and actually voted in decent, they would be a very strong voting block. The Republican Party is definitely outdated there.
My solution: deport any illegals that are commiting crimes or are criminals in Mexico. Allow the remaining to stay but make them pay back taxes or a hefty fine just to start the process of them becoming legal, and also heavily fine any business hiring illegal immigrants. That's my solution.
Ted:
I do agree McCain wasn't the Conservatives choice and yes they were splitting their Risk armies between (yes I am old enough to remember RISK, barely) Huckabee, Thompson, and Romney meanwhile Giuliani was ignoring the 'liberals' of the Republican Party giving McCain a very easy path. However if McCain is as unpopular as it seems he is sometimes, I believe the conservatives would have banded together after their candidates started dropping out. It would not have been that hard to work together and beat McCain, they had the votes if McCain is really that hated.
I'm also very skeptical of Democrats crossing over when they have Obama and Clinton, arguably the best 2 candidates the Dem's have had in 12 years to choose from. I'm not saying its impossible but I highly doubt Dem's helped elect McCain. I am willing to look at the raw data if you have a link but I am very skeptical of that theory.
