Our friends are getting married THIS weekend!
We only have a set of fancy pastry brushes for them. I went a couple months ago to get them a present and everything was bought already except for some special order stuff and it was such a hassle I gave up.
So I have been thinking about what to get them but we have already paid almost $200 a night for hotel since it is 3 states away.
How much should a wedding present be?
We thought maybe since they love to cook we could get them a gift certificate for a grocery store or gormet store. I don't want to seem cheap but at the same time going to their wedding is costing a bundle not including the gift.
Any ideas? Money? How much?

The point of a wedding is to celebrate your committment to each other in front of family and friends. It is NOT about getting tons of gifts. The pastry brushes are fine. You do not need to get them anything more. You will be there to celebrate the special day with your friends. That is the important thing. If they are true friends, they will appreciate that you came to celebrate with them. If they carp about the present, find new friends.

I felt the same way when we were getting married but then I don't want to come off as cheap or that we don't like them. I am sure they would understand, though.

You don't want to seem cheap but you should have to get a second mortgage on the house to get them something either. a gift certificate my be the best bet or maybe something to personalize the home. A framed picture is always nice. You can get some at reasonable prices but they look alot more expensive. I'm a photographer. If you are interested in getting something for the home, I have a few suggestions.
