I see that alot of people here are members of money-making websites that track your searches or give you a special toolbar to use to keep data and I wondered if any of you had your concerns about these methods?I mean its not uncommon for businesses to follow these practices besides credit card companies, bill collectors, probably even grocery stores sell your information all the time but yet people are now willingly contributing that information when theirs so many loopholes in security online. I even think about this website sometime, information is the new gold (Read "The Fifth Generation" by Feigenbaum) and then sci fi thrillers where tapping into human thought is the big experiment. What about when government tried to confiscate all the purchase data of book store customers and yet we have Shelfari.com where we willingly give it out--Im not trying to sound ludicrous because I love mylot and definately Shelfari but isn't the security concern always loooming in the back of your head--every year new security measures have to be built because the pace of information exchange is surpassing us and only growing. The satisfaction is immediate but at what cost to us?

You're right,we all are too ready to give up lots of personl information in pursuit of a quick buck. There are many programs that will pay you to monitor your cell phone/smartphone activity. Yeah, they do pay but they also reserve the right to check your bill and your personal conversations. Who knows what they are getting from there? I was thinking of signing up with a website like that but backed out. I prefer programs that pay you to check your groceries/apparel purchases,at least there you only have to scan/read your price tags.

Yea, I dont mind grocery stores because I hope grocers will take notice of what i want and not all the junk but am curious to how far that info goes. Man, no i didnt hear about them listening in on conversations, talk about brave new world. I take surveys and have been for about five years so I have weeded out the ones that are not interested in your opinion but your personal business. The other day I got a invitation for $20 dollars to go onto a website to act as a customer and logging in by giving them your credit card information and red flags went off in my head--great way to make a first impression, i dont care if its not for real or not. But the surveys I've been taking the past couple months have been having to do with stuff like environmentally friendly products, or marketing more to dads instead of just woman, but I dont participate in the cellphone surveys because they ask way too much and rarely for opinion but personal information.

They definitely do! So many times you follow a certaing link and then get redirected to a website with completely different name and then get that "The server is not responding because it's been redirected too many times" error lol
