How's Your Colon Doing?

I admit it. I have a thing about being regular. My Dad has beaten colon cancer more times than I can count, and hearing about each and every one has convinced me that being regular is the only way to go. How about you? Are you a laxitive, fibre eating junkie? Do you have more of 'those' remedies in your medicine cabinet than anything else? Has your digestrive tract just up and gone home to mother? What stops your stomach from barreling right into your intestines? Have you enough digestive aids to rid an entire nursing home of irritable bowel syndrome? Do you stir your elixers with vanilla beans? Come on, fess up. What tickles your innards into regular flushes and gushes?

Oh, the things you come up with Spark! hehe I have issues with my movements. My doc said my all bran ceral and whole grain breads, and all the salads and greens I eat, just aren't enough. So now I mix a couple teaspoons of benefiber with my coffee every morning and in mymilk every evening. Sad thing is, I don't think its working:(

Maybe too much fibre? Everyone's body is different. My aunt was fibre crazy and yet always constipated. She cut down some on the fibre intake, and now she's more regular and much happier and not squinting anymore! ROFL

Maybe you have twisted plumbing? Really. My mom did for the longest time and had to have it surgically straightened out, but she's fine now - just having gall bladder problems now! LOL Poor Mom. It's always something.....

Well, I'm not sure of all the medical hubla behind it all. I have a lot of pain and just irregular. One day I'm in the bathroom 5 times, the next I wont be going even once??? I personally think its something different, but waiting for my next appointment to talk to her about it.

My father and I, according to everyone else, are really strange, as we both... "excrete faecal matter"... at least twice a day, morning and night. I don't intentionally do anything to keep this way, but I do drink a lot of water and prepare fresh, healthy meals with fruit and vegetables, and get all my food groups in a day.

But how full is your father's medicine cabinet? LOL Good for you. I too have a healthy diet and follow the food guide. It makes regularity a lot more...well, regular! ROFL

Dad actually doesn't take anything, besides 1 or 2 strong-shot coffees with a teaspoon of honey. Our family's not much into medicines =) Regular regularity is what we're all aiming for, isn't it? =D

Kudos to you all. I'm not much for medications either. Some Tylenol Arthritis and I'm good to go. And coffee as a regulator definitely works for me too!

Staggered though I am that you have any interest in my regularity, I am very happy to share my daily ritual. Every morning I get up, make a cup of tea and sit here, in front of the computer and having picked up the BBC News and New York Times online I turn to my E mails and myLot. Usually, just as I get to the second or third discussion, I get a familiar tightening in my lower abdomen that tells me that it is time to pop off and read whichever magazine has been left conveniently close to the lavatory for the purpose of keeping the mind off the action that is just about to take place. Approximately five minutes later I am heading to the kitchen. (Big) Job done. In the kitchen I have my bowl of All Bran or supermarket lookalike and I can then return to the computer for an uninterrupted session writing about my bowel movements for the edification of others. During the course of the day I also consume at least five portions of fruit and veg. All this lot keeps me a happy chappy, and the toilet paper industry in quilted products. Hope that helps.

Good Lord P1ke, except for the BBC News and New York Times, your 'regimen' sounds just like mine! LOL So I guess that's why I'm a 'happy chippy'! ROFL

Fiber fiber and more fiber. Iam a diabetic with more pills than carter but to be regular I eat oatmeal and lots of veggies and fruit and it does work without taking a lot of gunk too. Also I make it a point to get my ten glasses of water each and every day no matter what. I get my fiber from my foods the natural way as I already take two pills for my diabetes, three for my high blood pressure and one for my arthritis so that is enough already.

Oh I agree - that's enough already! Wow Hatley, I really am blessed not to have these kind of problems. I do so feel for those that do though. Like you, I get a lot of fibre in my diet and that keeps me pretty regular. My parents each have their own bathroom in their house. They both need their own medicine cabinets for all their pills and things. I figure the day I need a medicine cabinet of my own, is the day I take all the pills at one time and check out of this mortal coil. I just can't imagine having to sustain my life through medication. I suffer migraines a lot, but rarely even take anything for them. Pills and I cross the street from each other when we meet. I'm just not big on putting anything in my body I can't grow in my own backyard. So thank goodness for THC! ROFL
