Hamburger Helper Nights

United States

Ok we have all took the short cut once in a while we are hurring to get dinner on the table because we were late home or it's one of those we have soccer at 6pm ballet at 7pm so we have to eat quickly and be out the door. So my question to you is what have you done to spice up your hamburger helper nights? Tonight was my tuna helper night but I decided to put a twist on it I decided to make some bisquick dumplings and then back it .. So what is your variation for your quick and easy nights to make it more like a homemade meal?

mmmmmmmmmmmm that sounds delish Funny you should post this. I did not feel like cooking. Hubby did not want to take me out to dinner, so I made him cook.. He grabbed a box of hamburger helper for stroganoff . He cut up some beef tips into smaller pieces, cooked them up, boiled the noodles, then he used a mixture of sour cream and water to mix it all up with. Ya know... it did NOT taste like hamburger helper. It was pretty good. To me.. i don't care what flaver the HH is... it will ALWAYS taste like HH. Except tonight.. GO HUBBY!!

Good for hubby .. I will say I didn't use the regular tuna either. I used albacore tuna instead of the regular cans of tuna. LOL!! so baked with dumplings and albacore tuna. LOL!! Looks like it's not the regular hamburger helper anymore.

Sometimes when we are so late and we are so tired to cook we either eat outside or order something for take home. Or we could always buy cooked food anywhere near us since lots of stores have 24 hour service.

I don't use hamburger helper because it seems kind of expensive for what's in it. I make skillet meals from ground beef that doesn't take much time. I brown the beef along with some onions (dehydrated onions works well), and I boil some pasta, then open a can of tomato sauce and mix it all together. I sometimes add green peppers to it or garlic, or both. Tuna, I use cream of mushroom soup and rice or pasta - whatever I have on hand. It seems cheaper that way and it's quick and easy.

I usually get the hamburger helper when it's on a 10 for 10 sale and I have a 75 cent off coupon that gets doubled at the register. LOL!! So if I buy 3 for 3 dollars and then get 1.50 of I only pay 1.50 for three boxes which isn't that bad in my book LOL!! It's all about shopping for the sales.

You can zip up mac and cheese by adding more cheese which also makes it taste homemade and takes out some of the sodium in it. Variations to make it a meal include adding bits of ham, bacon, or weiners.

Argg Hon I can not stand hamburger helper or Tuna helper. If we are having a night like that it is just as easy to throw together a salad or Have a sandwich. It is usually just my son and I though out the week, so I often will make a vegetable and pork chop, pat out a hamburger with mushrooms, Its not to difficult for us in the evening. Most of the time my husband has cooked womething during the day before he goes to work and Jake and I have left overs.

I have a family of seven total so it's not easy to just make sandwiches either. LOL!! becuase one doesn't like this the other doesn't like that. Oh my head could explode with the way they act at time. LOL!! but I have made a decent doctored hamburger helper or tuna helper. It's just in what you switch in and out for it. LOL!!!

I rarely ever use hamburger helper because my husband doesn't like it. I have added onions and changed the sauce some of part of them, but he just doesn't like them. It sounds as though your husband is pretty good at coming up with some plans in the kitchen so maybe we should have him give us some ideas.

Erm I have heard a lot about hamburger helper and bisquik but I don't really know what they are! I tend to love pasta on those nights and just use a jar of sauce! If you have quick cook pasta you can have a fantastic meal on the table in 10 minutes and if you add some frozen veg into the sauce it is even better! xxx

We found some Naan (Indian bread) in a grocery store that we don't normally shop at the other day. We had no idea what to make with it because neither one of us know how to cook Indian food. We only eat it at restaraunts. What we do know is that we love that bread! I bought a pack of that Sesame Chicken rice... The kind that come in the paper packets that Lipton makes. I cubed up some chicken and sauteed it in olive oil with diced red and green peppers that I keep on hand frozen. When the rice was done I dumped it all in the big pan and sauteed it together for a few minutes. It turned out really yummy.

Holy starch! Why don't you just feed everyone half a loaf of bread? Sorry. I'm in diet nazi mode. My bad! I just made hamburger helper for everyone else in the house on Tuesday. I made the italian cheesy shells, added 8 oz of shredded mozzarella cheese and mixed in a drained can of diced tomatoes with green chilies. I do my best to make sure everyone is forced to consume all 4 food groups even if they don't want to. While they dined on that culinary masterpiece I had 2 grilled chicken tenders diced up and thrown onto a bed of fresh spinach, diced tomatoes, sliced cucumbers and I topped it all off with 1/2 cup of lowfat cottage cheese. Don't give me that look! Same look I got from everyone else while I happily munched away!

Wow you know the look I'm giving you .. that is amazing. Yep i wouldn't be eating the spinach but I do like a greatly made salad and I hate cottage cheese please don't ask me to eat it with you ever. Yuck!!!

I usually just cook healthy choices of all the food groups for everyone and if I know I won't have time the next day to make a full supper, then I will make enough for leftovers, so we can just pop our plates in the microwave. That is even faster than hamburger helper that is full of preservatives. But my husband loves that junk, so I have to make it sometimes for him. I just eat something else more healthy. Or I could just put a frozen pizza in the oven. No muss, no fuss.

Yep but I usually never have enough leftovers to use for the day I have little to no time. With five kids and three of them seem to have a hollow leg I rarely have leftover. My son had the flu and my one daughter was out and ate at her afterschool program so I was able to have some leftovers. LOL!!!

Depends on which one it is, but sometimrd i'll add extra noodles or different types. Sometimes I add veggies to it. Or sometimes I don't even add the meat. I love HH and make it often. I never have time to really cook, so they are perfect for me.

It really is perfect for that quick meal when your on the go or don't have time to pull of a full home made dinner and now a days face it both people have to work in the home to make it work.
