It is normal to feel bouts of self-pity when things go wrong. We feel like the world is against us, and we feel so bad about ourselves. There is nothing wrong in indulging in self-pity now and then, and it can be healthy as a form of release. However, wallowing in self-pity for a long period of time is totally unhealthy. Keeping a "victim" attitude or "why me?" personality not only disempowers you, but it prevents you from taking responsibility of your life and developing that "warrior" spirit of no matter how develop life is, you will overcome. Furthermore, nobody likes a whiner. So my advice, take a self-pity day, and then, get back to the real world.

I think we all feel some self pity at times. But in the long run self pity does not do any good. It is unproductive. There is always someone in worse shape than we are.

self pity is bad if it gets too much on your head. if you know how to controll self-pity it may oush you to do good. to strive more and to be able to achieve more. but too much of anything is bad. if you feel a lot of self-pity it will really ruin your life because all you can see is what and why people hate you or what and why you cant be like this. i have a brother who always and has a lot of self-pity.... and it is just making us sick of listening to him.

Self Pity is normal. It only becomes bad if you allow yourself to continue with your "pity party" for a long period. If you find yourself wallowing in self pity, STOP! Look around you. Find something good in your life! And don't say there's nothing good. There is, even if it's nothing but the weather is better today than yesterday, or you're not and invalid, or. . . I've had people come to me moaning and groaning day after day with the same old self pity about the same old thing and they can't think of ANYthing that is good. Since I know them I am able to tell them, you have a roof over your head, food in your cabinet, clothes in your closet, a loving spouse. . .you take it from there, but the next day it's the same old thing. How you feel is up to you. Go ahead and have your pity party, but not for the rest of your life. Just look at all you'll be missing!
