I recently applied for a the position of Program Director for a certain school... it would involve organizing outreach programs for students to help in the community... and to set up ties with companies that will potentially hire the graduates...
I think i did good during the interview... and my background was perfect for the job... but when it came to the salary that i wanted... that paved way for the problem... seems like the school was not willing to give me the same or a slightly higher salary that i am currently making...
And that was just a turn down for me because i really wanted the job... but if i take it for a lower salary... than that would mean more financial problem for my family...
What would you have done?... would you have taken the job since the work was perfect but the salary low?... or decline it just like what i did...

I am in the same situation right now. The salary I am getting in my current work is really good. I can say that I am quite compensated but I don't like my work at this moment so I decided to apply into another company, they are good company but can't give the same salary or higher than that... Since I need money, I decided to stay in my current work. I will try to find another company then.

Yes, me too, for now, I will stick with a high paying salary for my needs but after that, once I get settled down, I would like to work into another company that I really like.

For me, If I have another option I will just decline it! It will be useless if I will work there whole day and my earning is still not enough for my family! I will just look for another work who can give be a better salary!I know with your qualifications, It will be easier for you to get hired!

Good thing i have this option to stay in my current job... if i didn't... then i would have to take the job and accept whatever they will pay me... nowadays... even if one is qualified with a long list of achievements... it is still difficult to secure a good job... thanks for the response...

I see..I was thinking you have no job at all. That's great! In some point of view, you are correct but here, it is very easy to find a secure job once you have all the skills and qualifications!Too many job offering but have to be competent to stay longer! Happy posting!

Hello there, there are a couple of factors need to be taken into account. 1) In you post, you said your background was perfect for the job, but you didn’t give more details on how many years of experiences you have; why you thought you were perfect for the job. 2) You didn’t give reason why the school decided to give you low paid. 3) Did they suggest giving you a good pay rise after the probation?
Anyway, I may consider taking this job if I were you. Because 1) I could spend more time with my child as there were summer/winter vacations. 2) It was a challenge as I liked this type of job. 3) I would give the school and myself a chance to know each other so that my pay might go up at the end.

Hello aseretdd,
Right now, I only think about earning money. If I do need to apply for a new job, the most important for me right now is the pay. I want to earn as much as I could while I am still young. Second thing that really matters for me is the office hour as I have a small baby who needs my undivided attention and I want to spend more time for him till he is a bit independent. But it is true, sometimes the job is not the perfect choice though the money is good.

We have the same priority when it comes to job... time and money... i certainly will not take the job if it requires me to stay in the office for 9 hours... that would kill the quality and quantity time that i have to spend with my daugther... and the pay should also be not to degrading for a professional... that is why i opted to just stay in my current job... thanks for the response...

it would be difficult to decide which options you are going to take. if i where you if no other job offer at the moment take the job but while you are doing you work with them try to look another job that fits your resume and with fair salary.

Your family needs financial security. But at the same time, if you would be better for a position, and have a passion and actually care to help the students involved, and may care more than someone else, then these students might be missing out on something.
Your family should not be neglected, so if it's just an unreasonable amount with no agreement of it being adjusted or changed, then I would have to do the same....
But if it was because I believed I was worth more, but I could make it work, and my career would be more rewarding and I could genuinely help students (high school kids need real people that care and will help us) ....maybe I would talk it over with my family, and see where was best for us...and what would be most rewarding to me...

I would love to help out students... but for now... i think my main priority is to take care of my family... and to think about my baby's well being... since i will not be able to buy all the things that she needs if i am to take a job that i like but pays less than what i am earning now... thanks for the response...

Sometimes what you need to do, is weigh the Pros with the Cons. Look at both jobs, what they have to offer you, and what you are doing in both positions, etc. and then go from there. Sometimes it is better off to be Happy where you work than to have to settle for $$, as it could be a major stepping stone in your life you really need for a better paying job down the road.
All I can tell you in today's economy sometimes that is a hard thing to do. But at least when you know you are out there trying to apply yourself something better will come for you, and you know it will be worth all the time and money you have spent doing so.

I thought about the pros and cons... and it seems like... for now, i have to do this sacrifice in order for my family to survive... but i am still hoping that when we are no longer in our current financial situation... i apply for the same job... and hopefully we can work out an agreement... thanks for the response...

I actually think it would depend on if it gave me the same schedule as the kids! kwim?
making more money would be nicer... but if it meant having the three months they are off... off... then I might consider it!

I would have done the same thing. In todays age money is tight so we have to do things that dont always make us happy. My hubby would love to switch jobs but we need the money too much.

I agree with you... an increase in pay is one objective why we change jobs... but if i don't have any responsibilities in life... i would have taken it... because of the opportunities and professional growth it can give me... but for now... money talks... thanks for the response...

I think I would have declined it like you did! Sometimes money really matters in job hunting. If the job sounds interesting, it's a good thing; but if I have to take a job for lower salary, I don't think I will make that change because it doesn't make sense to me and I would want to progress in life instead of going backward.

But the job would have meant a return to the teaching environment for me... but i will not teach... well... money is quite an important thing right now... especially with the current increase of the prices of almost all commodities... thanks for the response...

It would depend on other things, such as perks that might come with the new job, whether the parking was better or there were more windows or other comfort features, opportunities for advancement, maybe how happy or unhappy I was with the present employer. If the new job had more permanence that would be worth giving up some money maybe.
I prefer a better work environment, but we don't know for sure that would have been better once you got there, so maybe it turned out for the best. Good luck!

If only i am single right now with no other responsibilities at hand... i would have accepted the job in a heartbeat... but i have a family to think about... there are bills to pay... and food to put on the table... so for now... i have to stay with my current boring job... thanks for the response...

Sometimes we don't have a choice,we have to live,we need money to cover the exspenses. When I was at college,I didn't have to worry about the money,I would do anything to go after my dreams, get a dream job ,even if it's with harder work and lower compensation. But now,I doubt,I might take a job with higher salary which I don't like just like you did.But if the job has potential great opportunity I might as well take it even if didn't pay well.

Well, i cannot take any chances right now... with the current increase in the prices of commodities... even if the job has a good potential... something might still get wrong... or i might not meet their expectations... that is life... thanks for the response...
