Nothing like White American celebrating a Mexican victory over the French Army. Every country has a victory over France. Nothing like given someone the reason to get drunk. Wonder why we do not celebrate our victory over the Mexican Army, I cannot imagine why?

Well, I think we realize the Mexican Army didn't control us, we simply moved in on them and took control of Mexico City and held it hostage until they gave us our current Southwest. Texas does celebrate (or memorialize) The Alamo, though. And, the French were in control of Mexico with Maximillian in charge after taking control from Spain, but the battle of Puebla provided the morale needed to actually gain independence later. I think that's why it's confused with their Independence Day, which actually isn't until September. If it weren't for the French, though, we might not have our own Independence Day on July 4.
But, I agree - just like St. Patrick's Day, when everyone becomes Irish, Cinco de Mayo is another excuse to adopt an alternative identity and drink (although the food is much better than St. Pat's!! LOL)
