Much media coverage has recently been directed to the rising cost of food. Many spectulate on the causes and associated remedies for this problem, while others lay blame for the current situation. American farmers are among those who are on the receiving end of this wrath. Pressure on state and federal legislators to adresss the situation has prompted them to target subsidies and incentives that are paid to farmers and ethanol producers. Many would have us believe that the current increase in food prices is a result of increased market prices for corn caused by the redirection of grain to the production of ethanol. I do not believe this is a major factor in increased food prices, nor do I belive that stopping incentives for the production of ethanol is the answer. What do you consider to be some of the causes of the current rise in food prices, and what would you propose as the resolution?

Hi newtondak, Welcome to myLot, I hope you will enjoy the site, it is very good. Gas prices are making a difference to the rising cost of food, also a world shortage in wheat and other grains. Some people are saying that grain should be used for food and not ethanol. Blessings.

Thank you. I'm finding it very interesting. Bad weather in a lot of areas, both in the United States and in foreign countries has contributed to shortages. Several countries have halted exports of food products to protect their own reserves, while continuing to import food from the United States.

There will be more things going up on price. Now the gas prices going up has cause and increase in food products and later the retail market will be increasing their prices for merchandise. That has to be delivered by trucks too. Soon there will be bigger problems and they have already started people are stealing gas and it will continue to get worse.
