Fishing

My boyfriend went out to a cabin with his dad and said they are going fishing. I asked him not to, but he said he is doing it anyway. He thinks it is okay because they are only doing catch and release. I do not see the point in doing that at all... I mean, they are not even trying to catch fish to eat... I didn't feel like arguing about it, he can do what he wants, so I said fine and dropped it.
What I want to know is why do people think that fish cannot feel pain? I hear this all the time (even my boyfriend the vegetarian who doesn't even eat fish said this!)
Do you think it is true that fish do not feel pain?

I have never heard that statement before. Fish are alive so why shouldn't they be able to feel pain? I think that's a strange statement to make, especially since one has never been a fish before. I definitely would not rule out pain as a probability.

I have heard many times people call fish "swimming vegetables". A lot of people do not know they are animals, truthfully! Many do not consider them "meat" hahaha what is this world coming to?!
