A curious swelling - An update

Well the other day I posted a discussion about my poor ankle that swelled to twice its normal size for no apparent reason. I was really not expecting the response that it received at all. The fact that so many people seemed to be genuinly concerned for my health actually shocked and touched me, I really just did not think that people cared about me that much. Anyway enough of the soft stuff, I did pop along to the doctors just to be on the safe side, even though the swelling had completely gone, and tried to explain to the doctor what had happened, I felt like a bit of a fraud because there was absolutely nothing to show him at all apart from a partially stubbled leg, but he was very good about it and took a look and his conclusion was that I have trapped my sciatic nerve as I have been getting pain down the back of my leg that is just like annoying cramp. So he prescribed some pain killers and told me to just take it easy but to go back should the swelling reoccur, so thank you all for the support and all the advice you gave me on this xx

I'm not completely aware of your situation, but my mother recently has been having ankle problems that sound similar. Her ankle swells after walking for a short amount of time. She finally was in so much pain that she had the doctor take xrays and they found a cyst on her ankle. She sees the surgeon next week about it. Is it possible you're experiencing something like this?

Thanks for your concern, my ankle just swelled up for no reason the other day, I had no pain, no bruising or anything, I did not even notice it until I dropped something on the floor. I did not think nothing of it until I put it on here and everyone just literally told me to get to the doctors. The next day I could not go to the doctors as it was shut but then I started getting cramp right down the back of my thigh, the swelling went down but my leg was really uncomfortable. By Friday it just ached and so I went to the docs and it turned out it was my sciatic nerve just playing up.

I am so glad that you had it checked and that all is well! Sorry if we worried you but that swelling could have been serious! I wish you could have taken the photo you posted here to the doctor and let him see how bad it was though - then there is no way you would have felt like a fraud or fake! So glad that your leg is back to normal - remember that you have to take it easy and make sure your other half runs around after you! xxx

I guess it could have been, I was worried but I am glad that I listened, one voice would not have got through but lots of voices together telling me the same thing made me sit up and listen. Thanks for caring xx

The funny thing is, that I probably would not have done if I had not realised how much people seemed to care. I felt very cared for, and it was a nice feeling. So thank you xx

I am so happy that you went to see about it, and you got it looked after. You never know with things like this, it could simply or serious and it is always better to find out by the doctor than to self diagnose.

Sciatica can be very painful, I hope it sorts itself soon. At least you now know the cause because like you say there were a lot of us worried about you. Ellie:D

Yes it can, what I had forgotten was that when I worked in a nursing home, some years ago, a patient had pulled me over and I was in agony I went to the doctors and eventually I was told that I had mild sciatica. He told me that it would reoccur throughout my life. Somehow I have set it off, I think it was with some exercises that I did the night before it started to swell. So when I was getting the cramping pain down my leg yesterday, this was what it was.

That's really good to hear. good thing it wasn't any kind of an edema (or is it still?). Well at least it's nothing serious. We should all take care and look after each other, regardless. It'll make such a better world to live in.

You are right it would be a better world, and it is really nice to know that people do still care for each other.

Glad to hear that you went and saw the doctor. You can never be too cautious with something like this. Its better to go to the doctor and it be nothing, or something simple than to postpone and it get worse.
