Well it is getting late in the planting season here in Minnesota. The weather I think is finally cooperating as far as night time temps for planting. I have to get this bed dug up and ready for planting this weekend. So I am going to dig some, then turn the sod over to remove dirt, etc a row at a time. Then I'll take a break and come back here. But I want to do as much today as I can as it is to rain Tuesday. Then Thursday I will be waiting for my High Speed Broadband access etc to be available etc. So are you on and off today doing any gardening or house work etc? I got one more 15 foot long row done so far this morning. I just got back from running to make a deposit at the bank. Now I will be going back outside for a half hour or so.

Ooops I didn't at first AGB but I have now and I have to say it looks like you have worked hard on it! I hope you put your tools away nice and tidy - my Grandad always said A good gardener always looks after his tools - he was so passionate about growing fruit, veg and Dahlias and won lots of awards! I wish I had just a smidgin of his talent but I am afraid I don't! xxx

Ahhhh! 45 minutes later and I have 2 more smaller rows turned over etc. And boy do i stink. HAHAHA!! This is hard work for someone with bronchial asthma that is just getting over a cold and not having smoked for almost 3 weeks. My lungs seem to be working overtime since I last smoked. Anyhow I am making oprogress. I have decided it will be a bit smaller of an area as well di=ue to the back fence. it will be roughly 15 fett across and about 13 or 14 feet deep. I guess I'll rest a little more than off to digging some more. Noone else will do it.

I just wanted to let you know I found a couple of freebies and posted 2 new discussion last night with the links. You daughter responded to one of them. You would probably be interested in both, she would too. Just wanted to give you a reason to take a break and rest your back, digging is hard work. Are you expanding your garden? Didn't you have one last year, are you still using that space. My son moved our garden area, but him and the other guy digging are in the 20's plus after digging they used the neighbors tiller.

Yes, that is the way that I will be working here today. I have the day off work and plan to use it to do a lot of housework and some outside work as it is to be in the 70's here today.
I hope to get flowers planted, yard mowed, weeds pulled, and laundry done as well as discussions here and selling on ebay. Does it sound like a day off? No, not really but it is the same here all the time.
I hope that you get all the work done that you would like to do too. I am glad to see that you are giving us updates as I thought about doing that too so I can see the progress that I am making.

it's nasty looking out here today so I'll be indoors most the day. I've top soil to spread in my garden and I have a flat of marigolds also to plant. but they will wait till another day. Updates are always nice for other members and friends plus it makes me a little extra cash as well.

My husband dug up the garden, but it was still too wet and clumpy, so we're trying to let it dry out before we plant. It keeps raining, so we'll probably have to give up on getting the ground the way we would like it, and plant in big lumps of clay like we always end up doing.

I have really good soil. Plus this area I am digging up for the plot is lawn and things will grow great in it. I will be adding some compost, manure, and some black top soil as well turning it to mix it fairly well. I have got a bit done so far today. i am digging about 8 to 12 inches deep as well that's one reason it's very tiring etc. Plus I am also setting the pices of grass/sod along my one apple tree that had flowers at one time but i moved them due to my dog walking in them. Here's what I've done so far compared to the photo posted with the discussion. Now it's time for about an hours rest or so. Gotta fix dad lunch etc.

i love planting, when still i am a kid my parents taught me how to plant corn and rice but when i left home and living independently from them i never had an opportunity to plant corn and rice. my father called me last night ask my assistance to buy fertilizer for their corn and rice. i missed doing this stuff.

I'll have sweet corn, 3 different types tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, zuchinni squash, onions, bell peppers, banana peppers, and a few other things growing. It's a decent sized plot I am using and there are other areas for this as well. I love doing my own gardening.

Now I've half the area dug and ready for planting. I may plant a few things tomorrow. I may even stop at this size and utilize this area as best as possible and make it bigger next year. Here's what it looks like right now.

I only wish I was as disciplined.. no it's one thing OR the other for me.. what ever I do, I do it almost compulsively! I am getting better though and when on the computer will get off at a reasonable time and still mange to get other things done! And when I weed, for instance, I now will stop before I am almost permanently stooped over..

When I started my veggie garden, I took just about the whole day off of the internet. I wanted to get it done. It is only a small one though as it is my first garden. Next year I am going to do a much bigger one if all goes well.

Ooh look at you go LOL we dug up two new areas in my yard as well..one aroudn one of the backyard trees and another chunk next to the garage...I'm in the process right now of putting the rock wall around both of them (which I'll be goin out to work on in an hour or two when its a bit warmer)..Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to pick up some of the plants i want..My husband made me a trellis out of some small trees and branches from the back woods which turned out really nice and I'm thinking we could also make a pergola out of some larger trees too which I'd love..I like that rustic look ya know...Not to mention the simple fact that to BUY a pergola kit is EXPENSIVE..

Do you dig yours uop by hand though? I want a tiller but can't find one at an auction this year. I checked all over. Oh well. I could have rented one but thats no fun. More work in my minfd going to pick it up, filling out the paperwork, then returning it. I did it with old fashioned elbow grease. I need to get a trellis ior something for my Clematis to climg. I have a pole with wire tied to it and the rails of my front deck for it right now. Happy gardening also.

That is the way to do it! A little at a time- that way you don't get bored with it. We use a roto-tiller to get the garden all ready. Then we use a hoe to make the rows. It is simple really. We are all ready to plant- and have planted 2 rows.... Waiting until after Memorial Day to finish- Same time I will do my flower boxes :) that is the pain --- digging up for new flowers in the beds- mulching! etc.
Happy gardening!

I try to stay in touch as far as the emails go though even when I am not logged in. there are times where I have just deleted a bunch of older emails when they got piled up too badly. I am about ready to go out digging some more soon. A few more emails to read first. have a great day/evening.

I wasn't here too much yesterday as I had to run some errands in town, then spent some time with my husband, cooking dinner, baking cookies, etc.
Today I have some furniture to move around and curtains to hang, and it's supposed to be a better day today than we've had the last few, so I'll be outside repotting some vegetables and putting a few into the ground (maybe).
Yep, and in and out day for me today too, but since I'm not venturing away from home, I won't be far from the computer.
