I know I am getting old now. I went to Home Depot for some soil for the garden bed and some Marigolds for the Flower bed. It is I think 40 pound bags and I bought 9 of them along with a flat of marigolds. Well I actually asked fopr help loading them onto the flat cart. But decided to load and inload them myself. Big mistake. Now my back is killing me. Oh well. Life goes on and next time I go slower unlaoding them. I was just anxious to get some yard/garden work done is all. I planted the Marigolds and stacked the soil in the garage. I couldn't do anymore with my back hurting. It's nothing serious just old age and a creaky back. So do you have a creaky back at all? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My back creaks at any and everything. It's creaking now and I just got out of bed a lil while ago. It'll loosed up in a while and then won't hurt so bad or be so stiff. Bout dang time I got paid. Been waiting for months for my paycheck from here.

I have had back issues in the past and have been careful not to overdo it again. Luckily I have not had any back issues lately but I do have to be careful when I lift things now. Hope you feel better soon.

I am only 30 and sometimes my back bothers me. After looking at the picture of all of the soil you got out of the trunk I can see why your back hurts.

Yes, our bodies do tell us to slow down when we are getting older. I am 51 years old and I certainly can't do the things I did when I was 25 years old. The old body won't let me do them. I have aches and pains in places I have never had before, like my bum muscles. I never knew my bum could hurt so much. I guess I did some things that I used my bum muscles and they are saying, don't do that again because it hurts me. But I don't let those things stop me from doing what I want. I just get sore but it only lasts a few days so it is still worth it. Same thing with my arms. A few days ago my daughter and I had a flat tire on her car as we were going to work, and so we had to change it ourselves. The lug nuts were so tight it took us about 20 minutes to get them off. We both tried and tried till I finally succeed and got them loose. So we changed the tire, eventually and everything was good. But boy, did my upper arms ever hurt the next few days. Right where the underarm starts. I can't lift anything heavy and I have to watch how I turn my arms or lift them up, it still hurts so much. But oh well, we all get old if we are lucky enough and with age comes the aches and pains. It is just part of life and we have to modify our actions as we get older, so we don't continue to hurt our muscles, or in your case, your back. I hope you are feeling better by now, which I am sure you are, as this discussion is 3 months old, and you probably have hurt other muscles by now, too.

Do I ever!! I have congenital scoliosis, a curved spine. It's not noticeable but causes me a lot of pain if I don't watch what I do. Add to that some degenerating discs and arthritis and I'm severely limited in what I can do in the way of physical work, which brings me no end of irritation! I was always independent and now I even have to have a kid mow my lawn. I have to take it slow and do things in stages. I dug a little garden for flowers last week and although it was only 15' x 2', along my garage wall, it took me two darn days! Ten years ago I could've done it in a couple of hours. Drives me nuts, and it's a pretty short drive these days! Take it easy today, Grandpa, pop some motrin and hopefully you'll be good as new in the morning! Old age ain't for sissies!

rady to rake - 7 40 pound bags so far laid out
I do my hard gardening work a little bit at a time. Like i just laid the soil out onto the garden plot and broke the clumps up. later I'll rake it if it isn't raining. then tomorrow I've got to mix it in with the regular soil after it's had some time to dry. I am all right just a little sore is all. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!`

I know I do. If I turn the wrong way or over due it, I am done for a few weeks. I hate it too, because I am not one to sit around or lay around.

Oh yes, I have had back trouble for years though it did seem better for awhile. Mowing the yard, sweeping or mopping the floor, anything that involves bending my back a little bothers me.

Oh no--- I know how you feel.... Mine isn't from getting older though- I just have a bad back from an injury years ago. I hate that it slows me down- I will go gung ho to get something done and then after (usually the next morning) I'm feeling like crap! And can hardly move. You need to slow down Grandpa Bob ~ get the help at the stores.... That is what they are there for :) I hope your back eases up so you can play in the flowers today!

I remember my parents had to put a back board in my bed as a child. But I've just had a full set of spinal xrays and the spine if fine. I think I've got ligament trouble. One of my worst reactions to allergies is inflamations. I was on a med for a head injury when I was in college and when I got off that med, I discovered I had inflamed the ligaments in my back.

Hey GP Bob, you make me feel older every time I read one of your discussions, LOL. I read about all your planting and yard work and I think, now where does he get his energy? I am 51, but because of various health issues like fybromylgia I have problems getting down in the dirt to play anymore, and I truly miss it. I want to work on my flower beds, and I think I am going to try this weekend, they look so sad. I will probably be posting the AW, OH, Groan right along with you come Sunday.

Oh yeah.. I have a bad lower back because I am a side/tummy sleeper and that puts pressure on my lower back..Then many years ago I strained my upper back and if I don't keep up with my exercises, the pain comes back.. You need to find what exercise is good for your back problem and work on it.

Grandpa Bob I did not even lift heavy sacks just got up from my computer and knocked something off onto the floor. I bent over to pick it up and oh nmy I got a muscle knot right in the center of my spine.hurt and it was actually sore to the touch. had this for three days could not even go to the doctor as it hurt too much to walk across the room then it just disappeared just like that. wow. reading you talking about lifting things reminded me ofthe time we went to builders emporium for a sack of planter mix. myhubby paid for one and loaded it on the car, okay my mom loaded oneonto our pickup not knowing my hubby had already done that, and I not knowing about either of those also loaded a sack onto the pickup. we got home and my hubby was dumbfounded. who bought all the planter mix.my mom said well I did not think you were going to get it so I lugged one onto the pickup and I said well I did not know what you guys were doing so I thought I had best load one onto the pickup as you said you had already paid for it. so we had got home with three extra sacks and paid for onlyone. so we took up a collection and my hubbywent back to Builders emporium and paid for the other three sacks of planter mix. the silly thing about it is we did actually use all three.my hubby had put a canvas over his and my mom an old blanket so I really did not know that we alreadyhad two sacks lol

You are only as old as you feel. Oh, that is probably not what you want to hear right now. I actually have a pretty strong back (knock on wood). I work to keep it healthy by doing yoga.

You do not have to be older to have problems with your back. I should know.I've hadvarious issueswith my back since 16. I think the trick is HOW we lift, using more of our core, and knees. Plus, no one should overdo it. Taking it slow, and not being hurried helps too. Hope you feel better soon.

I had a spinal when my youngest son was born. They put in more freeze meds than they took out fluid. When I complained about my back hurting they told me that I was luck as most people they do that to become paralized. He is now 25 and I have had a back ache everyday since. My suggestion to you is ice. When we get back aches, we tend to run for a heating pad. I have found out from numerous doctors and chiropractors that, in the long run, heat can make it worse. Ten to fifteen minutes of ice and 45 minutes to an hour off. Heat can cause more inflamation thus making the problem linger and even worsen. God bless. Rev Wendy
