Going through all our stuff we had in storage I ran across an uncashed check I recieved for a refund on a magazine subscription service in 2001. Granted it is only for $5.00. So I call the company up and explain what had happened and they say it is trash now (doesn't say void after X# days on it) and they won't reissue a check and after all it is no big deal cause it is just $5.00. Well $5.00 will put a little over a gallon of gas in the car, buy a gallon of milk, buy bread and peanut butter, or any number of other things so yeah $5.00 is a big deal to me. What about you?

Your check has no expiration date, right? Issued from a company, that is still in business. There is money entitled to you. Regardless, I'd call the company, repeatedly, until I spoke to a supervisor or someone who understands, they owe you money. Are you still a customer of theirs? If you are, you can ask if they want to lose a customer. Tell them what gas prices are, tell them what you pay for a loaf of bread, let them know you are serious. 5$ is a lot today, and who are they to tell you YOUR money, is too little to worry about?

$5.00 bucks is definatly $5.00 bucks these days. I would call the company again chances are you won't talk to the same person again and in the customer service world as you know the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing so maybe you'll get some one to reissue it. The other thing is if it doesn't have a cash by date then put it in the bank see what happens. I have to say in my experance your out of luck on the 5 bucks call it a loss and next time don't forget to cash the check! lol
