Okay, so how often are these treasured bills replaced??
According to the U.S. Treasury, worn bills are destroyed by Federal Reserve Banks during ordinary currency processing. As you probably guessed, the note most frequently replaced is the $1 bill. There are currently four billion $1 bills in circulation, and the life expectancy of each is approximately 18 months. Bills of larger denominations stick around longer since they are handled less than the $1 bill.
So just think next time you spend that dollar bill, it will be gone in 18 months!!

yeah it is pretty crazy to think that there are even that many $1.00 bills, what about our deficit? I mean, how much is the us dollar really worth anyway? It is just paper right?
I would think it would be nice to have plastic more so than paper money but who knows. Do you tink they will change it all to Coin?

I didn't think the paper money would stay in circulation for too long, here in Australia they made our old paper money into a more of a plactic feel to it, so it lasts longer...one thing I noticed about the US dollars they all are the same colour, we have our notes different colours and sizes for each different amount.

Here in the UK we have different colours and sizes for each note. It is easier to recognise the difference in notes especially for older/partially sighted people.

That reminds me of the movie I was watching the other night. I was watching Mad Money that came out this past Tuesday. It showed them destroying the money that was too "old" to keep around. That's a fairly short time period for $1 bills. I guess they are handled the most though because of waitresses, strippers and regular usuage.
