I suffer from depression and you know I think it is because I think too much and take too much personally, someone once said to me that I take the worlds problems on and I worry about too many things I have no control over but I really do think that thinking about things too much is not good...I tend to lock myself away when I am depressed.

Maybe you should try doing other things. Depression is a phase in anyone's life and you're the only one who could 'get over it' or 'suffer the consequences forever'. When I'm depressed. I usually just lie down and sleep the whole day. Which I see is the opposite of yours. But I always try to think beyond the depression. I usually give myself at most 2days to stay depressed, then I leap up and find something to keep me positive. Ranging from eating chocolates (which studies show could lead to a sense of happiness thus helping conquer depression) to doing some exercise. I also try reading motivational books and stories. You can also try watching positive movies, or documentaries of hope like "In Pursuit of Happyness" or "The Secret" But if you've been depressed for a long time now either you could slap yourself to reality or you should consult a doctor. It pays to see symptoms early so that it would be easier to treat. Good luck! Life indeed is too short to keep on moping about the things that make you sad. There are lots of people who are SAD in this world.. so be UNIQUE, be Happy! =)

i won't say i suffer from depression, as in clinical depression. but i do suffer from depression in the forms of holiday blues and such. it's always at the end of the year when the holidays come together. it seems a good enough time to reflect on the past year. however, the reflection often shows that i didn't achieve much during the year. i'd start to think about my whole life and what i have done so far. this usually lead to me feeling down and really useless. sometimes when i start to feel that i'm slipping into depression, i'd try to find interesting things to do. i'd go for a short holiday in the next town, or organise a get-together with friends to chase away the blues. it doesn't always work but it helps in stopping me going down the slippery slope. getting distracted is a really good way to fight depression.

I think you mean insomnia do not you. I have been having some problems with insomnie also but I am not depressed. If you have been depressed for very long I would see my doctor as there are things that you can take to help get ove your depression and the sooner you start the sooner you can behelp;ed. hope you feel better soon.

Hi gloreymay! I've also suffered from depression a few weeks ago and like you I also posted that here at mylot. I consider some of their advices and it really helps me to overcome it. Now I want to share it with you too. WHat I did was.. I look for other thing to do. I make sure that I am not thinking of the problems that I have. I concentrate on other things. Think of the happy things so that you will be positive in your life. Find time to relax and breath some freash air. Sometimes because of tons of problems that we have we forget to breath and get stressed by the problems. Once the problems we had has filled us we have a tendency to feel depress and we are looking at ourself as very weak. Eating also helps us to boost our emotions. If you feel relax when you drink try to have some or if you're like me who feel calm when eating chocolates go get some. If none of these helps you. BEtter to go to a doctor to give you some advice. Its not proper to suffer in depression. Some people look at it as a simple thing but it is dangerous to one's life. Hope you'll be fine soon!
