I have never experienced absolute silence, but whenever the electricity gets disconnected for some reason, and the humming of the fan or ac dies down, there is quiet and my ears start ringing. I get crazy trying to go to sleep or do some work. What does one do when the ears start ringing ? It is very frustrating.

hi kety!
i've experienced that. like a buzz in my ear during absolute silence. when i can't hear anything except for my own movement and breath, i would hear a faint buzzing in my ears and its kinda weird and a little eerie. so what i do is make noise to avoid hearing the buzzing.

My ears have rang when there was total silence before. I don't know if it is like a vibration in my ears or what it is really. I usually put some cotton in my ears or my finger for a second when my ears start ringing. I hate that feeling inside my ear drum. It is annoying.
