Are there any Mylotters out there who graduated from Northern Illinois University? If so, hello fellow alumni.
I was just wondering how exactly the shooting that happened last February has affected how you remember NIU. Has it made you feel more connected to the University as the nation mourned over our fallen Huskies? And were you proud in the response of the faculty and authorities during and after this horrible incident?
I remember my friend trying to call me the day before, but I did not return the call. She knew I had graduated from there and wanted to see if I had heard the news. I had not found out until the day after when my father had asked me if I had heard....I remember being glued to the tv watching CNN searching for an answer to why a fellow Husky would have turned on innocent people....and then as quickly as it hit the headlines it diasppeared.
I do not know when I will return to DeKalb to visit the campus, but I do know that when I do it will feel different. But for all those who have been through something like this or have watched on the sidelines...it kinda leaves a lump in your throat. And I have to hand to NIU for supporting their students and encouraging them to move forward together.
Forever NIU.

I had a boyfriend who did go there but I went to a different school. I was there every weekend for a couple of years. That whole thing is still so hard to believe. Dekalb is such a country bumpkin town and that campus always used to feel so safe. It's hard and really weird when such tradgedy hits that close to home.

I know, I never felt so safe as I did on that campus. Like you said it was very rural and the university is what made the city, besides the overabundance of corn. It still is hard to believe and I could not imagine what they went through that day.
