I super freaked out when I woke up this morning and saw a cockroach inside my slipper! It almost gave me a heart attack when I was only a few seconds away from putting my foot inside the slipper! I really hate cockroaches; I think they're the most useless creations on earth. I don't know why God created them- they don't look nice nor do they taste good. You can't make anything out of any of their body part. Finally, they don't play any significant role in nature! Yuck! Good thing the cockroach was slow and sleepy, I was able to pour lots of ethyl alcohol on it. I used to kill them with insect spray, but since I didn't have any on hand, I experimented with alcohol instead. I'm stocking up on alcohol from now on. It's proven to work very effectively against cockroaches. Plus, the place where the cockroach was staying is instantly disinfected, as alcohol is used as a disinfectant. How cool is that?! :)

I'm going to play devil's advocate, because I'm somewhat good at that ;) You say that the cockroach doesn't actually have any significant role in nature... but they do have one very outstanding quality that no other land creature seems to have quite the same way: the ability to survive. Have you ever heard of apartment buildings and such getting totally bombed with bug spray and all manner of pesticides, only to come back to some of the cockroaches still there? They seem to be extremely resilient little buggers - I think if we researched them more closely to find out exactly what makes them so darned unkillable, we might learn how to extend our own lives or strengthen our immune systems. (Well, that and, tasting good is one of those 'beauty in the eye of the beholder' things... somebody, somewhere, probably thinks they're pretty tasty, LOL!)

Oh now that you mention it, it is true how cockroaches never seem to die. Boo for us! I wonder how they do it? Its body isn't spectacularly strong, nor does its head seem big enough to house a smart brain. This is truly mind boggling-- but as you said, there's a possibility that cockroaches may aid in the discovery of techniques on how to live longer! Maybe they produce something inside their body that helps them live longer?
