This is a problem everywhere. When I lived in Arizona, the post office built banks of locked mailboxes everywhere to replace individual mailboxes because there was so much mail theft.
I've never had my mailbox tampered with here in the small Ohio city I moved back to.
Be careful. People will take those credit card offers from your box, get one in your name and there goes your credit!! They'll also get into your bank account from your statements or other banking correspondence and your credit card information from the bills.

Yes, Identity Theft is a big issue in America as of now.. It has never happened to me before, and I pray that it never, ever does. I had a friend of mines, tell me that another friend of hers, took a letter out of her car.. I guess it might have had her social security number on it. That girl used her personal information to apply for things. To be honest with you, I don't even understand how something like this can happen. When I go to the bank to cash a check. They always ask me for my I.D. picture. Here in South Carolina, I can never seem to get away with anything if I tried to. They watch you like a hawk in this state... So, me doing Identity Theft here is very risky on my end..

Pictures don't matter with the card-swipers they have now. My then-husband got his card stolen a few years ago that the person bought thousands of dollars of stuff with it. Nobody every checked the card to be sure the face matched the picture!

It is possibe that someone opened it or if you have a mailbox in the post office you might not have got it all the way shut and it nust happened to pop open that has happened to my mom. If your mailbox is on your house the wind can catch them just right and blow them open that has happened to me.

It's quite possible someone was looking in your mailbox. They could have been looking for checks or something that you may have left in your mailbox so they can take them and try and forge them. You never know about people now.

maybe somebody open it. want to got you mails, it is very common in our country, many people got interested in mails that not belong to them. many postmaster also kept mails and never delivered to the recipient. be careful in handling your mailbox.

With money being as tight a a rubber band it's possible that someone looks in your mailbox every day. This is how some thieves get money. They look for birthday cards expecting them to contain money or for anything they can sell. This went on so much in our old neighborhood that we all got together and had a meeting to discuss what could be done. A few months later we all got a notice that Locked mailboxes were being installed on almost every block in our neighborhood. We just had to pick up our keys. I think this is the best way to keep people out of your mail. It may cost the people in your area a little but it is well worth it.

Someone could have opened it. If you have an old mailbox it is possiable that it got blowen open by the wind. I had that kind of mailbox at one point. It was forever being blowing open by strong wind.
