Congress, once again, has Petroleum industry leaders on their hot seat. One of my state's Senators (Feingold) asked them how they can justify record profits while people are suffering trying to pay for gas.
Russ Feingold and other leaders in Congress... How do YOU justify record earmarks, pork and waste when people are suffering?

To liberals they do not have to justify government revenue. To them government cannot do with less. Government must keep growing, at the expense of you and me. People like Russie thinks that government know better how to spend your money than yourself. It does not have to make sense, when did liberal logic or the lack there of make sense. When you or me make money it is at the expense of someone else, so that must be punished. We are capitalist when times are good and socialist when times are bad. Makes no sense to me, but I am not a liberal.

According to something I heard on the radio, the oil companies's profit margin, which is the real profit left over after operating expenses and purchasing crude, was around 8% last year which is less than reported by McDonald's. Not that I have any pity for the oil companies who should have been preparing for this day 40 years ago.

True!
The oil company's profits are also smaller than the government's profits from oil.

..plus it's the imbalance between supply and demand which is making the speculators speculate, and raise the prices.. Guess it's kind of like seeing a train derailment before it happens.. But still Congress insists that developing alternative energy alone is the answer.. and to drill our own vast resources of oil is apt to remain illegal.. I blame Congress and not the oil companies.

It has less to do with energy and more to do with control.
