Do you use extremely long and confusing tags on your discussions?

When I first started posting on MyLot, I would use one or two short tags after each discussion and then quickly move on. But, lately I've started using extremely long tags to describe each post. Some of my tags are at least as long as a sentence. I'm not sure why it would take so many words to describe a discussion, but it does.
Of course, I try to make sure that the tag actually fits the theme of the discussion. I don't want anyone getting confused. And, I'm not sure if there are rules against making up bogus tags. So, I try to keep my tags realistic.
Do you ever use really long tags on MyLot? Do you ever write entire sentences and use them as your tags on MyLot? What's the most interesting tag you've ever used?

That's a very good point! I try to be relevant. But, sometimes I feel like posting something longer and more specific.

Ugh I hate when people write sentences for tags. Tags are meant to be short keywords that help people find discussions on topics. People don't search in sentences. I only keep my tags short and straight to the point. If I don't, it just gets too confusing.

No, I don't make long tags. I want my discussion to be easy to find, so I put it under words or short phrases someone would actually search for. People aren't likely to search in a long sentence form, so I try to keep it as simple as I can. Often though there are discussions that kind of require an unusual tag or two.

But, if a sentence best describes the discussion, then that's the best thing to use. For instance if I posted a discussion about my cat doing cartwheels, I might tag it, "Crazy cat antics" or "stupid stuff that my cat does". Now, I know that tag is relevant to me. But, if I tagged it with "cat", then noone would ever find it. You know why? Because everyone uses the word "cat" in their Cat tags. I'm not the only one that does it. So, my discussion would get buried under one million other discussions that used the "cat" tag. Noone would ever find my discussion. How does that help me? The MyLot search engine is very intuitive and can make leaps of logic. By tagging with such unique words, there's a better chance other people will find MY discussions. And, not just random discussions.

Not a lot of people would think to search for tags like that. With so many available spaces for tags, a person can post both long and short tags. But when I search, I can't know what someone thinks is a good phrase to find their discussion.

That's a good point. My post was simply meant to point out how different we all are, when it comes to posting style. Sometimes I feel led in the direction of posting a longer and more relevant tag. Other times, I post short tags. Whatever feels right, at the time. There's no law saying that a person has to only post short tags or only long tags.
All tags are picked up by the search engines. Every comment. Every thought. Every scrap of personal detail is being recorded for history's sake.
This post was meant more as a humorous comment, not to be taken with such severity. I had no idea everyone took their tags so seriously. They're just tags people! We're not getting paid a million dollars a post, so have fun.
I will post a smiley face next time to alert all that I am simply joking! Thanks for the witty banter and that you would choose to spend your weekend with me.

Well,I almost try to use short ,relevant tags.
I think giving long tags would help.
The tags are used so that similar discussions shall be grouped together.
Also, only depending on the tags, your discussion will be kept under another discussion as "relevant discussions".
So,its always better to use short tags.Just think from the third person's point of view and think what he will use to find this discussion.
So,I normally don't use long tags or an entire sentence as a tag.
I always include the interest under which I post as a tag.
Cheers! Have a nice day
Happy mylotting and happy earnings.

Try the copy/paste technique that I mentioned in my more recent discussion. It will speed up things for you when tagging. And, it's very accurate, because you can copy words from the original discussion and use them as your tags.

I usually used 2-5 words of tags. I do not wanted to used long tags, cause it just waste of time and I barely had enough time in myLot to make some posts. But each person here had their own preferences.

I might have missunderstood this, but I thought the point of tags was for people that search for discussions get hits in the tags. I therefore use only one or two word to describe the discussion in my tags. When you search you normally use only one or a few words.
If you write a whole sentence as a tag, doesn't that mean that for a person to find your discussion they will have to search with exactly that sentence? The more words the harder to get a "hit" it must be...
But I am not sure what the tags are for, maybe they are for something else?!

No, I try to be concise and use one or two words as tags. I aim for consistency in tagging so that all of my discussions that are similar will come in together. Whatever works in your style should be what you do.

no i try to make my tags fairly short and suited to the
discussion myself. the shortest tag I ever used was
on a recent political discussion as I just put I disagree
on it.
