I took my grandsons to the local NASCAR track Saturday night for the Eve of Destruction. This was at Elko Speedway in Elko Minnesota about 35 miles South of Minneapolis. Part of the races werre 2 Figure 8 feature races of 15 laps each. That means 30 times through the crossroads of doom each race. These are my favorite races and the drivers are all pretty good drivers avoiding major crashes but still giving the crowd a lot of close calls in the center of the figure 8, better known as the crossroad of doom. No serious crashes and just one crash in both races. But a lot of close calls. Have you ever seen Figure 8 races in person?

No I haven't but would really like too... Sense I'm not that far from MN I should go to one of the races there and see what your talking about ha ha... Well ok I'm about 4 hrs from Minneapolis.. It would be a nice get away if I were to do it on a weekend and go to the races on Saturday night... Wishful thinking...

I was thinking the same thing - it would make good weekend away. We're about the same distance from Minneapolis - but we're in ND.

I think I saw them once.. they were called a "demolition derby" but seems to me it was a figure eight! I thought it was fun! But nowadays I'm not so sure! I might just sit there gasping at every close call..

That sounds like alot of fun. I would love to go to something like that too. I love figure eight races. WE have a small track that is about 60 miles from me and they do stret car racing and they do the figure eights also. My dad used to race there when he was living. It is called Sportsdrome Speedway. I love how the cars just barely miss each other. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.

It's been a very long time since I've seen a figure eight race in person. I guess you can say it is exhilerating to watch and the anticipation of the close calls of crashing. Glad you got to spend some quality time with your grandsons.

I've never seen a figure 8 race in person but I've never been able to figure out how they can keep from wrecking every time around! "Crossroad of doom" sounds like a good name for it. I think I may have heard of that track. Is it a dirt track or paved? I know there are tracks in Minnesota where the WoO Sprint Cars race and I've followed sprints for years. (Not the "Sprint Car Series" as the main Nascar division is now but the winged dirt-track cars.)

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I am sure you boys had a great and wonderful time! However, i really don't know anything about car racing. I don't think I would love it because I will be so nervous all the time. haha..
Take Care and God Bless! Celebrate life!
