Hello, I am reproducing an article from “Times of India” dated 02 nov 2006 by Aparna Ganguli on the colum “MY TIMES, MY VOICE. I WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER YOUR VIEWS HERE ABOUT THIS ,esp Indians The Name Of The Article Is: First Among Equals “ Why is it that Muslims in India have Islamic laws but hindus here have got to be secular or else they run the risk of being dubbed communal? Courtesy the Indian media and politicians,Muslims clerics can flout the constitution and the Indian penal code.Regardless of his extremely unpardonable crime against democracy,Afzal Guru’s hanging has been put on hold. The President will be under duress to grant him clemency or else J&K will go up in flames. Is India a democracy for all or a crypto-theocracy for the Muslims? The garrulous wife of a chief minister would not rest a while till Dhananjoy’s life was snuff out but now everyone is silent. The President will show a clear bias and discrimination in favour of Afzal Guru should he pardon him, while he refused to do so for Dhananjoy, though the latter suffered more.Courtesy india’s secularism, the maulvis can turn the Supeme Court judgement into a fatwa to force imrana to leave her husband, notwithstanding their strong love for each other. Can we not have true secularism as it exist in Britain?”
