I watched Nick D'Arcy in an interview following the court decision to not reinstate him in the Olympic team. He spoke of his dream to be in the Olympics and swim for his country. He spoke of wanting to win a medal for his country. I believe he was trying to make himself cry. He was sniffling (falsely) by the end of the interview. He was basically thanking his parents and friends for standing by him "through all this".
There was no word of sorrow, contrition or remorse, no apology, nothing in reference to the (I have to put "alleged" here)bashing he inflicted on the other guy who is still needing to have more surgeries.

What do you think of this guy? Do you think he should be allowed to go to China as part of the Aussie swim team. I would be so ashamed if he was allowed to go.

No, I do not believe Nick D'Arcy should be allowed to go to the Bejing Olympics because of what he did to a fellow human being. The Olympics is all about sportsmanship, and he didn't show any sportsmanship when he bashed another man senseless, who is still having to undergo more surgery for his injuries.
He hasn't shown any remorse for his actions whatsoever; I would be ashamed to be an Aussie if he was allowed to represent our country.

Absolutely not. The injuries the other swimmer suffered were brutal. I know I wouldn't support it.

..sounds like he is pretty much focused on himself and not how he has so greatly hurt another.. It would turn me off too!! I don't know the story, but it sounds like he should not be allowed to represent Australia as part of the team in this manner.. (doesn't sound much of team player! anyway)

Hi there,
i dont think that Nick D'Arcy should be allowed to be apart of the Olympic team, why should someone like him be able to represent Australia. someone like him brings a bad name for Aussie. Going along with your title of this subject, i agree he is a thug as well .. but thats my opinion

I'm with you on this one. He did the crime and needs to be made an example of.
Being drunk is no excuse for his behaviour, neither is his age or the fact he made it onto the Olympic team.
My partner and I can't discuss this issue without it getting rather heated, one thing i've found we don't agree on.
In addition to him losing his spot on the team, I think he needs to have the same social punishment as anyone else would get, or kids are going to believe his behaviuor was acceptable, and that is not a good thing at all.
Ever since it all happened, he's been very mousey, but at no point has he shown remorse for what he actually did. He's only interested in going to the Olympics and we don't need people like that representing our country!

I find him rather a strange person...why hasn't he apologised or at least shown some remorse? He has since appealed to both the Olympics board not to be thrown off the team and I think he also appealed his court case decision of guilty. I know he's absolutely off the team but I don't know what his penalty is.

He's got what I call 'Hero Head Syndrome', that is, he got selected and his self image came before his humanity. The old saying I believe is 'pride comes before a fall'. If he does end up going, I'll not be impressed at all!!!!

The male version of Tanya Harding....so very sad.
No he shouldn't be allowed to be a part of any Olympic team and he shouldn't be allowed in any team sport every again.
There is no excuse for what he did and some fake sniffling in front of a bunch of cameras is a long sorry way from an apology.

Is Tanya Harding the skater?
I'm not sure what that story is about but this guy went to the pub with a bunch of mates after the team for the Olympics was named. Apparently he was big noting himself and being obnoxious and got into a fight with another swimmer. He really did some damage and not once since has he made any mention of the event, not shown any remorse or apologised.

Hi MsTickle,
Despite your pinkish grin, I think you've summed up the matter quite well here.
That fellow needs to have a king-size reality check, and part of that includes being held accountable for what he does to other people.
So what if all HIS dreams are being crushed - I wonder who he has to blame for that?
Not to mention the dreams of the poor chap he decided to beat up in some night club.
No doubt he'll go on through life, encouraged by his doting parents, to view himself as some sort of victim of injustice etc etc etc...
Best to just ignore him and let him reap his just desserts.

I do not think he should be allowed to compete at all as he does not embody the most important aspect of sports which is "Sportsmanship". It is does not matter if you win or lose but your reaction and attitude to the results.

I definitely do not! I think some people let the fact that they are a good athlete go to their head and makes them think they are a law unto themselves! I happen to believe that the olympics are not just about being the best in your sport you are also a representative of your country and what country wants to be represented by someone who would do something like that? xxxx

Hi Ms Tickle! Oh, I am really sorry to learn about that but in my personal opinion, I do regard all athletes and participants of the Olympics as Ambassadors of Goodwill of their own respective countries and if one athlete will show such bad behavior it will reflect on the team and of the country. I think it is good decision on your country not to allow him to participate.
Take Care and God Bless! Celebrate Life!
