Question about microphone, yahoo messenger and computer

I have a mic that i got with my webcam and whenever i use the mic it makes my computer unresponsive for a few minutes and i basically have to shut it all the way down...and i was told i might have to uninstall it and reinstall it but I never had to install it...I put the disc in for the webcam and thats all I had to do..i just hooked my mic in and clicked call on yahoo messenger and thats all there was to it it started working and now it does this...Its a Philips...what could be the problem and why didn't i have to install it?

Try unplugging the mic first and see if that is the real problem. If not plug the mic and unplug the usb webcam, test if its working in control panel sound & audio devices under voice tab. Mic do not require a driver, you have to just insure that its plug in the pink jack. The unresponsiveness when a new device is attached is normally cause by window searching for its driver, so ensure you have properly installed it including 'install anyway' when driver is not digitally sign by ms.
