Would you ride a motor scooter?

You know the ones? Like the Mods in England drove in the 60's. Well the bikes are much more modern now. In the 70's I think was the first time I actually saw a moped. Now all the big companies are making scooters. Even Vespa under a new name are making the retro looking scooters. Where I live you don't need a special motorcycle license to ride one under 50cc's. I was out looking at them yesterday, window shopping and dreaming. They have some that look like Yamaha crotch rockets even. I hear you can soup them up too and add power. I always was too self conscious to ride one, they had a bad stigma attached to them in my circle. The joke was "why are ugly women like mopeds?" "They are fun to ride but you wouldn't want your friends to see you on one" Anyway, now that the price of gas has skyrocketed and there is no relief in sight I am thinking moped or scooter is the way to go. So my question to you is if you could afford one would you ride it?

When my ex bf and I moved from California to Florida we ran out of gas on a long stretch of desert highway. We were not having fun at that moment. We sat in the car wondering what we were going to do when, on the 'access road' that ran alongside the highway, there came an old black man on a moped, with his belongings piled up taller than his head behind him, and dangling from the side of that small mountain was a gas can full of gas. We bought it off him. He was on his way from California back home to Arkansas on that moped. Not only did he save our a$$es, he ruined our argument, cause how can you be mad when you are laughing?
But yeah, I'd ride one in a heartbeat! I just recently decided that that is EXACTLY what I need. My drivers license expired and California has some kind of a hold on it and won't let me renew it because of some ticket I got there 10 years ago. And the cop who lives next door to me now knows that I don't have a license, so I haven't been able to do any driving at all. I have to depend on my mother any time I want to go shopping, and my mother and I do not have a history of doing well closed up in a car together. And to make it worse, the whole time she's driving me over the mountain roads with sometimes pretty steep drops off the side, and hairpin curves, she's going "Oh my god, this is so dangerous, I can't see a thing!" or "I'm seeing double! Are there two lines over on your side of the road?"
It's awful!!! I NEED a moped!

Don't you hate it when you are all set for a good fight with hubby when someone comes along and ruins the bad mood! I've been up some pretty scarey roads like the ones you describe when driving along the Oregon/California coast and to have a driver who says she can't see would scare the hel& out of me, you do need a moped!

Mars is my ruling planet, I don't need any gas to go there... it comes to me. But I stay away from mope heads. In fact, it's not really even a moped that I want. What I really really want is a Vespa!

I'd love to ride one. Of course, then my kids would ask why did I never let them have a motorcycle or ride one?
The down side is that the drivers are all so crazy here that I wouldn't be safe on one I'm sure.
With the price getting so high, we might definitely start seeing more mopeds or motor scooters. I would like to see more bicycles out there actually.
