I use to do alot of volunteer work before my son came along. But I never did it to make me feel like a better person or for self validation. I did because I wanted to help people. I was handed everything as a child and even now I never have to ask twice for something. And I know there are people out there that need help. I plan on volunteering again when my son is a little bigger so he can get involved. Even though we give him everything I want him to see that some people have nothing and we need to help when we can, do as much as we can, and give whatever we can spare. We are actually starting to collect teddy bears to give to the police station here for children involved in domestic violence situtations. This is something I did when I was young and would like to give a donation once a year. Our goal is 150 teddy bears. We live in a small community so that should last more then a year.

You are great for doing what you do for the people in your area... that teddy bear drive sounds neat! Thanks for posting about that and about your other altruistic volunteer work.
