Ive always wondered what "bumping" mean. This doesnt have a double meaning or at least I dont think so. Ive always read this in forums and around the internet.
What does it mean to "bump" someone's messages and what does it mean to "self-bump"? What are otehr situations where "bumping" can be done or can happen?
Im a pretty logical person and Ive tried to make sense of it but Im clearly at a loss.
Hope someone can help and enlighten me on this. Thanks!^_^

Bump in internet:
Reply own message or other message meaningless,
just to make the message become the first in the list.
Bump in real life:
If you driving car too fast,
and didn't stop when you see red light in traffic light,
probably you will bump into other car or bump by other car.

Thanks for the 2 definitions. But I kinda knew what the 'bump' in real life is especially around traffic. HAvent been in one yet, thankfully.LOL
So replying in your own message can be considered bumping. Do forums really allow that? I thought they didnt. Well, myLot is actually one of the first forum type site I joined and we all know that we cant reply to our own message. WE cant even edit our own discussions. Thats ok. Thanks for explaining.^_^

Actually,
the traffic one is an example I giving.
Here another example:
"Bump the door".
Definition of bump is:
To strike or collide with. (From Dictionary)
Meaning,
hit something while you have some velocity.(From my brain)

In forums and certain places the more posts your thread has the higher up it appears in the main list.
People "bump" to keep their thread popular.

A lot of people just type the word "bump", hehe.
Or they write something really random.

To BUMP means to add a comment to a discussion that moves it back to the top of the list of discussions! :)

It comes from
B - bring
U - up
M - my
P - post
But I guess it's been around so long no one really remembers this and also it kinda describes the action of getting a post/discussion back to the top of the list of post/discussions, so nobody has bothered to think about it.

I've been on loads of forums and for far too long
. It's one of those things that you just use without really thinking about.
