From my raised bed out in the back yard I had removed about 10 or so Irises. I planted them in this bed which is alongside my driveway. In this bed are 2 seedums, one large beebalm and a lavander plant. So this area will be colorful and smell great as well when itis in bloom. But that's a ways off though especially since the irises bloom early Spring and the others bloom late summer into fall. But they are still beautiful none the less. And I'll have something pleasant to see each time I drive in.

I have lots of blooms in the spring.. first trees.. and then irises and (field?) phlox which right now is in a large part of two of our borders around our acre yard. This is because I threw seeds around for the last four years or so.. and need to do more.. I deposit them at the base of the grass that also grows there. They're perfect flowers for that as thy are a little taller than the grass.. but after that.. I don't have a whole lot going on otherwise, except the hostas in late summer.. and some roses which bloom over the summer, some peonies I transplanted year before last and are now going to have blooms this year.. also a plant which looks like a domesticated and smaller version of the queen anne's lace (I also leave the Queen Anne's Lace in the borders. That one throws off tons of seeds and I throw those about too.. But I have a pretty large space of time where my borders are pretty boring! What I need is a cheap source of something which blooms over the summer, and will spread well. I'm thinking of Echinacea (Purple Cone Flower?) for one, but need to find out when it's bloom time is.. It's lots of fun isn't it? I even like the little strawberry blossoms.

How tall does your Phloxx get? The Phloxx I have in front of my deck gets about 2 to 3 feet tall. I think mine is a pink color. I can't remember actually. Man my mind is getting bad lately. As much as I love my flowers etc I can not recall all the colors etc. Oh well at least I do remember I have them. Cornflowers get fairly tall though. They would look good in the background of the large area. Ever thought of Snow on the Mopuntain? Its an exceelent ground cover, short, green with white edges like it's covered with snow. But it is a very evasive plant spreading like wildfire. No blooms. Some more nice things are they have border lilies for cheap that get about a foot tall and spread like a blanket in a couple three years time. Columbine are nice as well as are jacobs Ladders etc. I copuld have a field day with a large area.

I copy, pssted and printed your post so I can remember the flowers you mentioned, thanks! I'll bet you really would have a field day with a large area!!!

Sounds as though you will have beauty along with pleasant smells. I think it's a little late for me to do any flower gardens this year, but I am planning on it for next year!

It's never too late unless the ground is frozen. Actually a lot of perrenials I have I planted in late fall the first time. And they thrive now.

So far it is still the same size as when it was over last winter. But it has yet to green up AT ALL this spring. I have no idea as to when or if it will start to grow. I have heard it doesn't handle the Minnesota winters. But Bachmanns told me this would survive and all. Nothing yet though as I checked it out today as I dio each morning as I walk the gardens and flower beds each mornign with mom and a cup of java.
