and that is to fully solve one whole RUBIK'S CUBE!!^_^ I know it might sound silly to some but its good to have a personal goal that differs from the usual ones like passing all subjects this term, exercise more, study more, other things like that. I have always been aware of the Cube but in all of my whole life I have never fully finished solving the whole Cube. Ive done 2 faces maximum and usually I just solve one face but Im moving on to other things. The Cube is gaining popularity in my city nowadays and I see children and adults alike walking on the streets with their own Cube in hand. Most students in my University has a Cube with them everywhere they go, always trying to solve it. My goal is to solve my own Cube by the end of the term (October) and to be get it over and done with.^_^ What are some 'weird' or amusing goals that you have set for yourselves? Were you able to accomplish it?Thanks!^_^

Rubick's huh? Didn't really intend on getting one but, curiousity ignited when I saw my friends who skated also doing the cube. I was able to adapt on the first two layers just by watching those friends of mine toil on it. The top portion just got me looking at some online tutorials and I managed to solve them within two minutes. I also did those DIY cubes which makes yours unique than those that are commercially available. Goals.. not usual ones.. such littles things that others may take for granted kind'a goals... let me think.. I once purchased my first skate shoes with my own money. The first one I bought, I had my parents helped me out but, the one that I am referring, all from my own saved money. I even went along a friend who knew a place where they sell affordable skate shoes. They were affordable since it wasn't commercially known. Perhaps that's one of my simple things in my existence that I kind'a value, being able to buy something out of my own earned money. That's kind'a taken for granted now-a-days.

Well, havent really had tiem to check out some tutorials so Im going blind a bit. Maybe Ill try to look at some this weekend. I know that there are some cubes for sale that already has a manual along with it. I tried to ask a classmate to teach me or us(my friends and me) rather but they just solve the cube without saying anything. Im not sure if he doesnt want to give away his 'secrets' or he just doesnt want us to be on the same level as him when the time coems that we do learn how to solve it. Not sure, dont really care and there are lots of other sources on how I might solve the cube. Hmm, skate shoes huh? Which kind is that? Skate as in ice skating or skate as in skateboarding?or maybe a different kind of 'skate' altogether?LOL Yeah, I really dont like to ask my parents for anything especially money to buy things that I might not need but those things that I just want to have. I know they'll give it to me but you're right getting something all from our own hardwork and pocket just makes the object more valuable. Thanks for responding.^_^

There are local video tutorials in youtube about solving Rubick's Cubes. Its more easier in visual than to read a manual. Well, its really hard to explain at first when someone asks on how it can be solved. I would often start with orientating the cube for them. The basic would be the cube's face or the one that your currently facing, the cubes side's or the ones that your hands might be holding, either left or right, since there's a face, you can consider the cube having a rear, then the rest would be cube's top and cube's bottom. See how hard it is when its on text? Now, depending on the cube, each color has fixed opposites. The typical would be red against orange, green against blue, and yellow against white. Most often, you only move the sides or the top and bottom of the cube. Those are just some things that I comprehend as I played the cube. If your referring to Ice Skating, you don't call them shoes. You call them boots. Its due to the foot wear should be strong enough to handle the skater's ankles from sprains or worse fractures. That's why the foot wear is higher than the ankles. If your going to ice skate and the foot wear that you use only covers part of your feet and not up to your ankles, there's a big chance of experiencing painful situations. I was referring to skate shoes on skateboarding. Yeah, your own hard earned money adds that additional value to the items that you bought yourself than on the things that you didn't.

Ive finished it(the cube) once now!I followed a Youtube video and his explanation is pretty easy to understand. Best of all he shot the tutorial with the point of view of a solver and not a watcher. Yeah Ive tried to read a text explanation on ways to solve the cube and its kinda the same as reading a very technical trigonometry textbook. So they're called boots huh?Ive always known them to be just ice skates.LOL and I did think you were referring to skateborading. You didnt strike me as a twirler. I didnt know you need special shoes for skateboarding. My friends just use their normal shoes when they skate. Some even prefer barefoot. Its their risk. I dont think they use it that much at all nowadays. Busy with studies.^_^

Hi friend, that's nice. I was trying to solve one but till this time no result yet. I have the feeling of throwing it away in case it gets in place hehehe. But, I am still keen to solve it no matter what and I will let you know if I am be able to get it done. By now, my patience is going longer and I know I will have to solve it soon.

yay! Good for you! ITs a really good excercise for our minsd isnt it. When I was a kid Id try to solve it in about 5 minutes. If I havent lined up at least 2 rows on one face Id literally throw it at the wall.LOL It was my cousins and Im glad it didnt break because she would kill me!LOL I liked my other cousins' Cube because its the one with the lock on it and whenever Im feeling very frustrated and angry at that small cube id just open it with the lock and piece it together then Ill be happy again. LOL! Great update: IVe finished my cube last night! Sad thing nobody was there to witness it. My friends wont believe me and so Ill try to prove it to them but that wont be my first solve anymore.Anyways, it was good while it lasted and Im now trying to solve it without any guides. Goodluck to you! and thanks for responding!^_^

Hello my dear friend. I must say that i know what you mean with that cube - i haven't managed 2 sides at least, just 1 side, and 8 pieces of another one at most. I was really surprised when i saw a new kind of cube in one shop - it had 16 blocks on each side - now that's extremely hard to solve. Regarding the standard 9 blocks set - there is an algorithm, that i think you can find on the net if you don't want to make it on your own. Well about goals for myself ? Apart from passing the exams and getting a good job, it would have to be getting a cat when we get our own place (me and my girl) - actually this is our common silly goal :P; also getting fish (let's hope we can keep these 2 at a distance :D). A short term goal would be to find a good gift for my girlfriend as her birthday is on 21st of january, and i have no idea yet. Another goal is to visit another country then Greece this year, that has a lovely beach just for us, but that would mean more expense, and i don't want the neighbors - Bulgary, i was thinking something like Italy or Turkey - we will see in 3 months when i get to check the new holiday offers. That's about it :)

Heya elitess! Ah, you saw the 4x4 cube, there are actually more variations of the cube now. There are 2x2, 5x5, 6x6, and I think there's already a 20x20. There's also that pyramid shape as well as a trapezoid shape puzzle cube. I have tried and solved a 3x3 cube but it stretches and twists out instead of a fixed one. I forgot what it's called though. Oh I would love to see your future pets when you get them.^_^ Those seem like very great goals for this year. I think those would keep you busy at this time.LOL I wish your girl to have a Happy Happy Birthday in advance! Thank you for responding and sorry for the late comment.

I had a Rubix cube when I was about six and I was obbessed with it. I would sit for hours twisting it one way and then another. All I ever acheived was making it more mixed up then it was when I bought it. I can remember being really frustrated with it that I tried to see if I could remove the colours like a sticker and rearrange it that way. I sat scrating my nails across it for what seemed like hours and, you know the answer, nothing happened. I don't think I've ever set my self and odd goal, unless I just don't see it as somehing odd!

Obsessing about it; I can definitely relate to that.LOL Ive gotten past that phase though. I hardly ever touch my cubes anymore. I think Ive forgotten the procedure as well. True that its odd when we think its odd. Its just a matter of perspective I guess.^_^ Thanks for responding to this old discussion of mine. Merry Christmas!

It is good to set the goal for ourself, We must have to set our main goal but to reach to that goal we must divide our goal into some different short goals so that we can easily reach to our goal.

That is a good advice. Sometimes general goals seem to vague and to daunting that people get discouraged or they dont know how to get to that goal. So it is indeed good to make short term goals to act as steps or guides to be able to attain that general goal. Thanks for the response.^_^

It's funny how these things come back. I remember when the first Rubik's Cubes became popular in our neighbourhood when I was a kid. My brother and I tried for weeks to solve it, then we gave up and learned how to do it by heart. I very much doubt I could remember the formula now though. I know someone who ended up pulling off all the stickers and rearranging it that way. Talk about "thinking outside the square"!

LOL! I know some kids who still do that and I did cheat in a way when I was younger. Used to disassemble the cube and just put it all back together in the right place. They do come back dont they? Kinda like bell bottoms and flare pants. Anyways, thanks so much for responding!^_^

Hey bjcyrix - good luck with your goal! I think it's important to set out-of-the-norm goals for yourself once in awhile. It keeps life more interesting. I remember playing with the Rubix Cube as a child and it can get really frustrating. I think the closest I ever got was getting 4 sides complete. Did you watch the movie: Pursuit of Happyness where Will Smith's Character finishes it in like 1 min? It was really neat! I love hearing how the Rubix Cube is re-gaining popularity again. Everything really comes back retro doesn't it?

Hi! Thank you! I have an update: I finished it last night! but with looking at some guides and tutorials. I want to be able to finish the cube without looking at 'cheats'. Im actually trying to finish it for the second time now and just trying to practice and practice until I get it on my own. I did watch that movie. It really was amazing. I was a bit amused with the CEO Corporate guy. He was all business but he seemed to be really frustrated and fascinated by one small cube Yeah, in time most things will be retro or at least retro inspired. Thanks for the response!^_^

that really good for you as you could test your patience for how long you could last to to resolve it. I do try to resolve my rubik cubes when i was younger and i end up dismantling the pieces reconnected again with the same colors before showing it to y sibling to boast that i solve it which never true, but happen they caught me so i end up starting again. The same theory of application applies to real life when one have goal should be determined never to cease or else everything which plan in the beginning would end up with nothing. Their is a need to persevere if one have set a target goal because lacking patience resolves nothing ending in disappointment.

LOL It seems that most people would do that when they were first introduced to the cube. I like the way that you related that little incident with how we deal with life. I agree that we do tend to look for shortcuts to make things a bit easier. But nothing sure beats the feeling of victory and self accomplishment when one has successfully finished the cube or has finally attained their goals in life. Thanks for that wonderful response.
