I Love Sand Boxes

Someone mentioned in another discussion of mine there was a funny story due from a response from my daughter. Well here it is. 5 years or so ago my dad first moved in with me to care for him. he owned a Chevy Impala and I drove that more than my own car. My Aunt from Michigan was also visiting us at my house. We decided to go to my daughters for a visit. Well they had been doing road construction for awhile near her and I was not concerned about that. As I got to the turn offs near her home there was of course the "Road Closed" barricades set up. They were repaving the strees there. Being that I'd been down this road just a week or so ago I drove around the barries into what i thought was dirt and gravel. Oppps. It was sand. And a lot of sand. Maybe a foot or more then the dirt rock and gravel etc under that. yes. I got stuck big time in the sandbox. Well my Aunt was freaking out wondering what I'd do. I said we'll walk to my daughters house and call a towe truck. Funny thing here now. Not only did I feel stupid for getting stuck, the tow truck also got stuck trying to pull me free. So he called for a truck to pull him out as well. HAHAHAHA! The new truck came and pulled us both out at the same time. then someone called the cops and I got a ticket for diasobeying a traffic sign. Too funny. To this day I have yet to tell my dad this story and won't either. Thanks minnie. Grrr! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is so funny. Do you now realize that road signs are there for a reason and obey them?

Shame on you! Disobeying a traffic sign....but then, I stole two (and still have them!) I remember my ex getting his truck stuck in the mud, so I left work to help him out...big mistake! Not only did he yell at me (gee, I didn't say to drive off the road!), but he got MY truck stuck as well (even with 31.5" mud tires!) We had to get him towed out, somehow he pushed me out and I had to return to work dressed up with mud on my skirt and all over my shoes!

My last name is OLSON and there is a highway caled Olson Memorial Highway here near me. I have always wanted one of those big green signs. But never had the gall to steal one. I did steal a STOP sign for my parents farm driveway up north. Too funny. Did you get a hard time about your new mud skirt? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We never took any signs like that, but a friend (Eddie) had NO qualms about taking these! One was a Stop sign, pockmarked where kids used to shoot BBs at it, and the other is an ultra-rare 5 MPH sign that I intended to have my parents put on their driveway (never did). Oh well! As for the mud on my skirt--at least my boss realized I wasn't lying about where I was and it took quite some time to get it out!

You did, indeed, start a discussion about this, Grandpa Bob. Lord help me if I can remember when, thou. It was some time ago, thou.

That's a wonderful story Bob! LOL....Once I was in a parking lot.....well driving down an incline into it and for some reason turned the wheel and one of my tires was hanging over the edge. Well I had to call my ex husband who didn't have much of a sense of humor.....so he came and his boss came with him to pull me up off the curb.....His boss knowing him like he did told him in front of me that if he even yelled at me that he would fire him! But it was kinda freaky too......I never went down the back way to the grocery store again!

LOL. that sounds about like our luck in my family. I know something like that has happened to my family over the years also other than getting a ticket. I just cannot recall what it was right now though. I don't think I would tell your dad either LOL. I bet you he would get a laugh out of it some time though.

I have visited and loved playing on the beach when I was a kid. I still can remember spending time in sandboxs on playgrounds and enjoying making castles, and towns and stuff. I've been lucky to never get my car stuck in sand, never even gotten it STUCK anywere for that matter. Now, tow trucks towing tow truck, I have a story for you. I was in school in the early 70's and riding a bus to the university out of town. They were building a hotel and there was a giant mud pit with a stuck dump truck down in the pit. A small tow truck was part way down the slope attached to the dump truck. At the top of the slope, attached to the smaller truck was a larger tow truck braced on the curb pulling them both out of the mud!

How funny. Thanks minnie for bringing this story out. I love it and it brings back a memory. One year my brother and his family come down and we all went to our place on the river so they could hunt. It had come a huge rain. I think it was my brother who got stuck first, then my husband went to get him unstuck and you got it, he got stuck also. We finally got a tractor and got all vehicles unstuck and we all had a good laugh about that. The tractor almost got stuck and that would have really made it more funny. I am like you Grandpa, I would never have imagined sand being there and that was so not right that someone called the cops out on you.

I had to use a 3 wheeler to haul my dads tractor from the swamp at his farm before. He did not know how to shift gears in either the tractor or the 3 wheeler. HAHAHA! FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~[/b]

That is really funny, I have to say that it was probably the funniest thing ever today. So thanks for sharing that one. Although you may have felt stupid, the tow truck driver must have felt even more sillier!

ohmy goodness Uncle Bob a tow truck to pull out the tow truck, sand is really treacherous stuff, about like the s.D.gumbo mud, I remember a time when we were all dressed up in sunday best to go the county experiment farm picnic, and we got stuck in the gumbo on a dirt road where it had rained recently. my mom got out to help my dad and grandpa to push the car out of the mud, wellmy dad wad heckling my mom for not being very strong in pushing our old ford and her feet came out from under her and down she went. best dress and all andd my dad was laughing like a fool while grandpa helped mom up and helped her to wipe the mud off her clothes. then somehow my grandpawas standing close to my dad, and whoops down went my dad into that pit of sticky black gumbo. to this dad I will always think my grandpa sort of accidently on purpose gave dad a little shove. anywary we finally got to the picnic and half the people there had been in that same mud hole and had mud all over their clothes.lol lolzx

That's funny. I have never seen a tow truck call for a tow truck...lol. I once got stuck in my brother's driveway after a storm and felt so stupid. I was in a little coup and it just sank while I was walking the beach behind his house. Luckily his neighbor is a friend of mine and offered to pull me out with his truck. I am sure they had a good laugh about it when his neighbor told him, though.

Well I will share this one, since you were kind enough to give me a laugh. My hubby the great fisherman! He used to love to fish more than eat, which was fine by me as I love to fish too. The problems came in when he would decide to check oyt side roads, and little used ruts in cow pastures. I have been with him on many adventures down roads that got narrower the further we went, until there was no place to turn around and we couldn't go forward because of the trees, so we would have to back up for a mile or two. One particular day he and his fishing buddy from years ago decided to go find a good fishing spot, it had been raining for a couple of days and I cautioned him to please not try to go down any dirt roads, "Oh we will be fine," was his response to this, "I am gonna be in my 4 wheel drive Subaru." Famous last words!much later that day they came back home, both soaked to the chest, shoes and all, I asked if they had flipped his Jon boat, "Don't want to talk about it!" I knew he had done something stupid then, so on I badgered, you know how we smart mouthed wives can be. I finally got the story....They came upon a dirt road that hubby had just been dying to explore, they got about a mile or so in and spotted a "PUDDLE OF WATER." Well no problem, since he was in his Subaru 4 wheel drive! So he was gonna ease through the "PUDDLE", The puddle turned out to be a 5ft hole in the road, that was full of rain water, the whole front half of the Subaru 4 wheel drive was sinking fast, they had water gushing in from all sides, and thought they were gonna drown, before the boat trailer stopped their dissent LOL. Lucky for them there was a farm house close enough to walk to, and they got the old farmer to pull them out with his tractor laughing at the two idiots the whole time I am sure. Believe it or not the car ran for 5 more years, but would never go past 3rd gear again. The carpet was a complete rot out, so he had metal floors, and the seats smelled like mildew for months afterward. Did he learn a lesson? What do you think? NOT!

Thanks for the laugh! I love sandboxes but not that kind. When I had a Volkswagen I could run through sandy washes and such because it was so light, I never got stuck anywhere. But cars nowadays are just too heavy to deal with sand.

That is to funny just when you think it couldn't happen to you and it does. I think it funny how a tow truck got stuck as well while trying to pull you out and then another one had to be called to pull you both out. Then that bite you got with a ticket ouch. I guess we learn from our mistakes and know when it's to late we're in trouble lol.
