On Off What is this

I click on my friends tab and saw Notify on and Notify Off. What does this mean? I'm feeling my way here.

That is to tell the people on your friends list if you are logged on to My Lot or if you are not on.

It is so you can be notified of new discussions they post.
It does not tell us if you are logged onto mylot.
