I was in Bacolod for 2 nights and 3 days. It was something official -- in short not for leisure but it was a work-related trip. We conducted a 1 and half day workshop there on Social Performance Management for a microfinance institute. Anyways, it was a short and sweet trip. I am awed with people who speak Ilonggo. I mean, I understand Ilonggo and I speak little Ilonggo. I usually get intimidated when Ilonggos speak because the language is like music to my ears. I mean, I tend to get carried away and shut my mouth up because I want to hear them speak. Aside from that, I have tasted a genuine bacolod chicken. The place where we went to was Aida's Manukan. The set-up kind of reminded me of Nadie's Chicken in Tupi, South Cotabato. Somehow, there's a feeling of empathizing or identifying myself in what seems to be part of my identity. The following night, we had our dessert (my meal) in Calea Cafe. Damn. The pastries were superbly tempting you. Promise. And guess what I only spent 375 to 3 slices of cakes and 3 drinks for 3 people of course. The cakes could compete to the cakes of Contis and Red Ribbon. Yummy! The days I spent in Bacolod did not disappoint me, though I have not roamed the city, I just love the fact that I have experienced the people there. I mean, listening to them speak in Bacolodnon/Ilonggo (there's a difference I guess), eating pastries, having a true blue-bacolod chicken has been a nice experience for a first-time bacolod visitor like me.

Never been there but I am pretty sure that you will surely be amazed everytime you go to a different place every now and then. But there will always be a place that will struck your heart and will just fall in love with a certain place. I am glad you found one in Bacolod. My wife is from there though she grew up here in Manila but she knows and understands the dialect though she could not speak fluently. I hope someday we will be able to afford going there and meet my inlaws there.

I love Bacolod City. My vacation there 3 years ago was the most amazing ever. Actually, I toured around Negros Occidental courtesy of a family friend who is a Mayor there. Everything there is just so amazing...

I think you're really lucky to be able to go to the provinces. My family only goes abroad for vacation, so I've never really seen the other parts of the Philippines. I'd love to do a road trip to Ilocos Norte though. I also want to visit Cebu, Bohol and Palawan. The cakes do look yummy, but for me, all cakes are delicious. The ones from UCC are some of my favorites. I like red ribbon and contis as well though. :D
