OK I love pies, unfortunately they do not like me and I cannot eat them anymore but my family love them, especially my children. I am looking for some of your pie ideas, what sorts of pie do you make? Looking for interesting, unusual ones that are easy and low in price to make but taste good! So please tell me what your favourite pie is that you make for your family? I am looking for savoury ideas but any puds would be good too!

Definitely steak and mushroom is my favourite! I make a steak and mushroom casserole with very quick gravy in the slow cooker and then transfer the right amount into a pie dish cover with puff pastry then bake - delicious xxx

Yep you could heat it gently in a pot with a lid on the hob or put it in a casserole dish in the oven! I always used to put it on a high heat in the oven for an hour before turning the heat down low and leaving it for hours - the biggest problem was that I was forever forgetting to turn the heat down before going out and I would come home to a very smoky kitchen! lol That is another reason I love my slow cooker! xxx

By the way I meant to say I add loads of bits and bobs to my gravy but the most important is tomato puree or even tomato sauce - gives it a bit of depth! xxx

That sounds like one delicious pie and I might give it a go, though I have not got a slow cooker. I could do it on a hob though couldn't I? Do you just cover that then with a lid?

Pies are so good! I like apple pies, cause of the cinnamon. I like pecan pie, cause I'm Southern and it's the law. I like pot pie, which is not a sweet pie. Cause it's just plain good food! LOL! I've heard about rubarb pie. I've never had it before. But it sounded good, cause it was mixed with raspberries. I read the recipe years ago and it pops into my head now. I have some recipes on my recipe blog. Will check to see if there are any pies and such. Thanks for the tasty topic. Be well. Have a wonderful weekend.

My favorites are Black Raspberry pie and Apple Butter Apple pie. I have made the Apple pie a few times recently. I got the recipe online. It is awesome. Apple Butter Apple Pie Ingredients * Pie Dough: * 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour * 1/4 teaspoon salt * 2 tablespoons sugar * 12 tablespoons butter, cold and cubed * 1/4 cup vegetable shortening, cold * 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup ice water * Pie Filling: * 8 cups Granny Smith Apples; cored, peeled and sliced into 1/4" slices * 1/2 cup apple butter * 2 tablespoons lemon juice * 3/4 cups sugar * 7 tablespoons all purpose flour * 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon * 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves * 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces * Egg Wash: * 1 large egg yolk, beaten with 2 tablespoons milk Steps For Pie Dough: Preheat oven for 400 degrees F. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, salt and sugar. Add the shortening and break it up with your hands until it is fully coated with the flour. Add the cold butter cubes and work it into the flour with a fork or a pastry cutter. Work it quickly, so the butter doesn't get too soft. Add the ice water, a little at a time, until the mixture comes together forming a dough. Bring the dough together into a ball. Divide the pie dough into two pieces so that one piece is slightly larger than the other. Flatten the pieces into two disks and wrap each disk in plastic. Chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours. For Filling: In a large mixing bowl, toss the apple slices with the lemon juice and apple butter. In a separate mixing bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cinnamon and cloves. Sprinkle the dry ingredients over the apples and stir thoroughly. Set aside while rolling out the dough. Roll out the larger piece of dough and use it to line a 10" pie pan. Spoon the fruit into the pie shell. It will be a tall mound. Dot the top of the filling with the butter pieces. Roll out the remaining piece of dough and drape it over the fruit, covering the pie. Trim and crimp the edges. Cut a few slits in the top of the pie to allow steam to escape while the pie is baking. Decorate the pie however you like with any remaining pieces of dough. Brush the pie with the egg wash mixture. Set the pie on a sheet pan and bake for 30 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees and continue to bake until it has browned and the fruit is bubbling around the edges (approximately 30-35 minutes). Cool 30 minutes before serving. http://www.smithfield.com/recipes/recipe/apple-butter-apple-pie

Have you seen the movie "Waitress"? It's about a woman who works in a pie restaurant and her pies are insanely creative (and relate to her life situations). I myself don't make pies too well but my girlfriend makes a killer pumpkin pie. Even better when the pumpkin's straight out of the garden. Have fun!

I remebered another one Rose..a sausage pie....you make it with a shortcrust pastry...you need a pack of sausagemeat and some stuffing mix..or herbs if you prefer..and chopped onion ...blend the sausagemeat with the herbs /stuffing /onion and a beaten egg...place into the dish and flatten it down ..add the pastry crust and glaze with beaten egg..and cook...

I don't make pies as much as I used to...but Thanksgiving I do still make my homemade sweet potato pie..so much better than pumpkin I think..in the past I've made Lemon Meringue, Cherry, Apple, a Pear Tart...two other things I make that aren't exactly a pie, but sort of..apple crumble and a cranberry kind of thing...gee, can't even remember the name of it..but sure was good.

My favorite pie has always been peanut cream made from peanut butter. It has been my favorite since I was a little girl my grandma used to make them all the time. I have not had one for quite awhile not though.

I love pie, and it's one of the things that I'm really good at making. My favourite (and the one my husband has requested for Father's Day supper tomorrow) is coconut cream pie. It's relatively cheap to make, although it takes a lot of milk, so you have to be sure you have enough in the house. If you're interested in the recipe let me know - I'll type it in here for you. My other favourites are strawberry - rhubarb, and bumbleberry.
