Anyone here bite their nails?

I'm ashamed to say that my nails are a complete disaster. They're all different lengths, and nibbled around the edges. My excuse is that they are quite soft, so break fairly easily. Unfortunately, when they do I just cannot resist worrying at a rough edge with my teeth and before I know it any nail I had has gone. So is there anyone else with this horrible habit? Do you bite your nails? If you have any suggestions about how to stop, I'd love to hear them.

I don't but my wife does. It's being married to me that does it to her. I don't believe that there is any effective cure except willpower. She has tried all sorts and always ends up snacking on her nails whilst watching the soaps or weepy movies etc. I suspect that it is a stress related thing and that people bite their nails without even realizing that they are doing it. You could try soaking them in chicken poo. Maybe the grossness of that would put you off!! Yuk!

Perhaps you are beyond redemption. LOL. Trust me, if you were married to me your nails would be the least of your problems!! You'd be well on your way to your elbows by now.

But what's my excuse, I'm not married to you?! Will power is all very well, but most of the time i dont' even realise that I'm doing it. I've asked OH to tell me off when he catches me nibbling, but it just tends to irritate me which is worse than the habit I'm trying to break! As for the chicken poo, I suppose it would get me out of cooking! Not a bad plan at all.

When I was youger I sometimes would bite my nails but never infront of anyone. Now if I do bite them it is because one is broke and i wanna get them all lower before I file them . I have never been one to have all different lengths. Polish is always good and something that will make it strong , can be found in any store

I do tend to take more care of them when they have polish on, but I hate wearing it unless my nails look nice - which isn't very often! Otherwise, I think it draws attention to them.

Hi GreenMoo, Try Sally Hansen hard as nails. It is a clear varnish that really does strenghten nails around about $8 a bottle but well with it. You will find that you go from no nails to short nails in about a week and because they are stronger they won't break and therefore you won't be tempted to have a nibble. Ellie :D

I'd forgotton about that stuff. I used to use it years ago when I was trying to stop. I put it on, then put the bitter stuff on top. Yeuch!

I'm more likely to pull at my nails when I'm bored than when I'm excited. when I'm a passenger in a car is a good example.
