I'm from Detroit and if you search for detroit and our thug of a mayor on youtube it is so depressing, it could be a hollywood movie. I was wondering if anyone else from Detroit has any comment's on what is happening in Detroit? Also: With all the abandoned homes here, if you can't make it in Detroit where else is there to go, where is everyone going???

Hi spy, I am not from Detroit but I am pretty close, I am in Toledo. We hear a lot about Detroit on our news since it is the closest big city. It is very sad that the once great city is having such a hard time right now. The industry has really dried up there and it appears from what I have read that the city is so close to being nonexistent. You mentioned the mayor and abandoned houses, but we also hear a lot about the crime and education, mainly the lack of funding for the city schools. I am not sure where everyone is going. Toledo is closing in on Detroit, the schools are a wreck, the mayor (hmm do I need to say more than Carty?), the foreclosure, and our industry is also leaving. Isn't it nice that we are now considered "the rust belt"? I really hope that the new president (who ever that may be) can help all of the states that are suffering from this economic disaster. Good Luck!

Hi neighbor- I've been to Toledo many times, it has a little flavor of Detroit, but I would rather live in your city. The Detroit school system is absolutely the worst, and it seems that those who are supposed to be supporting our children are the ones who are embezzling from our schools! Crime- ya I'm always looking behind my back. It's so sad, Detroit, our Motown- is more becoming like "Escape from NY."

I never really thought of the New York and Detroit comparsion before but it does appear that way! It is getting the same way here though as well. The schools stink (I have my children in a charter/community school it's much better) the unemployment rate and crime rate are about the same. It is just a shame that the heart of soul music and the glass city have now become known as the ghost cities.
