I have a hummingbird feeder outside my office window and I see the little fellas several times a day, but even with the camera sitting ready beside me, I haven't been quick enough to catch them yet.
Just a few minutes ago I saw movement out of the corner of my eye so I reached for the camera once again. One more time, too slow.
Before I had a chance to even put the camera down, two more friends decided to stop in. I think these two little finches are auditioning to be hummingbirds!

Hummingbirds beat their wings at an alarming rate! No wonder you can't catch them! I love the photo of the gold finches though!

They don't stay at this feeder long, is the problem. I'm not sure why. The 'nectar' did sour in there at one point, so I'm pretty good about changing it frequently now.
I'm going to catch them, or die trying!

Hummingbirds are so nice to have around. Every year up until this year I have had 2 pairs in my yard. Sadly I think cat (dumb cat!) i got last November has scared them off. My other cats never bothered them
I'm going to try moving the feeder to the other side of my house away from where the cat can get at them.

This feeder is high enough that the cat can't get to them, and she's usually in the house during the day anyway.
They love to hang out on the edge of the woods in the honeysuckle too.

Finches at a hummingbird feeder? Now that is something I have yet to witness.

I've seen one of them around more than once. They're not really feeding from it, they just land on it and check it out.
I guess I should break down and by a thistle feeder for them.

Aww..what beautiful birdies...I think you're like me and have a real thing for birdies...I used to have a nice feeder set up on my fire escape until my jerk landlord had a fit claiming that it was blocking the fire escape...like HUH? How can a small bird feeder block it? So he insisted I take it down...party pooper
