Just yesterday I downloaded the "skype 3.8.0.139" which is a 21.3 Mb file. Now it is a freeware so it didn't cost me financial but considering the fact that I use a dial up connection it took good one and a half hour for the downloading to be completed and today the very next day, the new version "Skype 4.0.0.145 Beta" is available which is a 24.5 Mb file.. That has really put me off. Has anything like that ever happened to you?

Yes i stick with the old version until it doesnt work anymore,I dont think I need to download a new version whenever one comes out,i still use the same skype I downloaded a year ago and it works just fine. Why do you download new versions all the time? Do you find that they work better or what?

More often then not the new versions are faster and comes with added functionality. I don't go for the new versions without reading the reviews though. Thanks for the response.

Mmm... Skype probably isnt a good idea for you. I think you need faster internet connection in order to talk with other people. But yes, skype beta is optional, you don't have to download it.

The problem is that you probably had to have the original version in order to get the beta version.

I don't think that a beta version requires any platform of that sort, its the add-on that works this way.
