A few days ago I got a msg from my internet provider. A movie " Clover field" that I was in the process of downloading was illegal and blah blah. They gave me 48 hours notice to have the file removed from my computer. O k... so I deleted it. They emailed me back and said thank you. They also sent me a letter from paramount and another place that had reported it. Anyone know the process of this stuff?

Did you know that if you had already paid for a copy of Cloverfield, but lost it or it became too damaged to use, then you have already paid for the license (the right) to own a copy of that film and are actually perfectly entitled to one copy of the film. FBI warnings also state that it is only infringement if you purposely reproduce and distribute the film 'for profit'

This is the first time I heard of an ISP taking action against downloading..You maybe need to take a look at your provider's terms and conditions,in case they mention something like taking action in cases like this..Was the Paramount letter addressed to You,or was it a form letter to the ISP complaining of movie hackers?

The paramount letter was addressed to the MTS company which is my net provider. And it was regarding my ip address. I have downloaded movies for about 3 years now using torrents. I've NEVER had this happen before and I have hundreds of movies. So I was kind of shocked.

Hi keelymcilwain have a nice day, that was cool tracker, wow... I heard about that when I have my vacation in malaysia because some of their internet provider their also has that kind of detection. I believe they have a high tech process detecting your connection but its also dangerous when they want to play around with your account information or some infromation that you are sending through your e-mail. But I hope they only detect those elligal downloads and not your other informations.

The movie and music industry is aggressively pursuing these offenses as it takes billions of $$ out of their pockets. For you it's probably over with deleting this stuff. You can always claim lack of knowing it wasn't 'free' if they further pursue it. If they do, it could get costly. But they are usually just happy to go after the repeat offenders. If you do it again, your provider may drop you as they get involved in the law suits, too. Not desirable for them.
