hi! i just left my day job to pursue my art, traveling and to better take care of my family and cat. i feel that i have made the right decision but since i have been employed full time for 5 years i am now having doubts. the money issue is one thing. though i have several paid projects ongoing right now, the main thing that scares me is the lost sense of security of getting a paycheck twice a month. i am also a bit freaked out by being my own boss! i know it sounds a bit silly but sometimes its a bit comforting to have someone watch your back or someone to remind you of the tasks that have to be done. anyway, is anyone going through the same thing as i am? how do you feel?

No, I have never done anything like this before. I have been disabled for 22 years, and live on social security. I did go from a very high paying job though getting paid every week, to getting very little once a month, it is very hard for me to make it from month to month. But I do think that you made the right dission. just follow your heart, things will work out for you, it is alwas scarey at first when you are used to working for someone else, then venture out on your own. But in the long run, it is so much better working for yourself..Good luck to you.

I don't know your entire situation so this isn't easy to answer. Does your husband work full time and is his income enough to support your art and travelling? If so and he agrees then why not? Todays economy is so shaky and unstable that quitting a job should be a well-thought out decision with thoughts toward the future as things are not getting better anytime soon. I would not quit my job to work for myself and especially in these times unless my business was doing very well. But then again, I'm a single mom and so my situation is probably different than yours. I hope it all works out for you.

Yes, you will be scared working for yourself. that is normal, but from what you say, you took the time to think it through and now quit and I applaud you in your endeavor. What your feeling is normal. You wonder if you're cut out for this and being in charge of your own destiny that takes some getting used to. I wish you well in your new endeavor. wish it was me.
