Have you ever made your own french bread? How did you do it?
I found a recipe for it I was going to try tomorrow, but now that I look at it, I realize I don't have the bread flour that it calls for, only regular flour. So I began looking up recipes online and some of them seem quite difficult.
I am wondering if I can make regular white bread, like I do everyday, and just bake it differently. I'm just not sure which way to do it. The recipe I was going to follow says to refridgerate the dough, then spray it with water, and bake it with water in the oven. Another recipe doesn't call for any of that, but to brush egg whites on it instead.
I just want something easy that will still taste good, so which way should I do it?

I have made french bread, and it is kind of time consuming. You don't really need to use bread flour, you can use regular white flour.
If you want something really fast and easy, then you could go purchase the frozen bread dough or the bread mix. Those are much simpler and generally require a bit less work.

I enjoy making my own bread, I do it every day. I wouldn't dream of buying the dough if I have all the ingredients on hand.

I have never made my own French bread before. My son just asked me yesterday if I would make him some though. He loves it. He also requested banana bread. I think if the French bread though if you want a firmer crust on the bread then you would do the water. The egg wash will just make it more shiny. I think!

Like so many things, Bread is only as good as the ingredients. I use sour-dough starter and buttermilk. Honey and olive oil flaxseed meal, and potato. Then for flavor I throw in a half cup of raisins.I love home-made bread and have been baking it for so long I no longer need a recipe. French Bread is very basic utilizing only 5 ingredients- yeast, warm water, sugar, and Flour. For my taste I want a bread with more nutrition. Spraying a French Loaf with water is like washing your feet with your socks on!

that's very lazy, but they probably taste better than a version I could make myself.
